Wow, Avradoorn! I put it on the website, went out for a hot dog, and came back to find you had already PUT IT ON BHUZ! I was not gone 5 minutes! Those hot dogs are right outside my door. ..c::

So what can I tell you? Well, yes, Cocktail is in the 'bellydance workout' tradition of Luscious, Love Potion, Hard Candy, and Irina's new Tribal Fusion Bellydance Workout...except this time you will experience the classic cabaret moves, style -- and sounds!

The instructor is Tanna Valentine, of World Dance New York's Bellydance Show Basics for Beginners and Floorwork: The Bellydance for Body Sculpting. Tanna is also seen on World Dance New York's Perfect-in-Ten: Abs, a great abdominal and lower-body workout. This bellydancer really knows her stuff.

    ALL her stuff!

Cocktail: The Classic Cabaret Bellydance Workout will be released October 26th. Available for pre-orders right now here (USA) and here (for delivery to everywhere-else-in-the-world).

Special Offer: If you buy more than one DVD for delivery inside the US while placing a pre-order at worlddancenewyork.com, you receive a 15% price reduction and free shipping on ALL the DVDs you ordered, even though we will ship your available DVDs to you immediately, and the 'pre-order' separately, later.

If you are outside the US and buy a pre-order DVD together with at least two other DVDs (three-or-more-DVDs in all) at worlddancenewyork-worldwide.com, we will refund to you the USD$5.00 international shipping charge you paid - AND ship all the immediately available DVDs to you now -- plus send you the pre-ordered item separately when it is released, with no shipping charge at all!

It's a great way to save money while also making certain you are among the very first to get the new DVD into your hands when it is released. ..g.: ..g.: - Scott

    Scott,

So, in the Luscious tradition, I'm assuming there's going to be intermediate, and advanced Cocktails as well?

we're on it, gals, we're on it - gonna have that trailer for you as soon as we can. In the meantime we have at least posted a fuller description so you can see the difference between Cocktail, Love Potion, Luscious, and Hard Candy.
http://bit.ly/AmCab -- As you can read there, Cocktail is definitely going to be different from the earlier World Dance New York "bellydance workout" DVDs.

Hey don't forget US purchasers at http://worlddancenewyork.com get 15% off if you order COCKTAIL together with any other DVD on our website -- and we will ship the two separately so you don't have to wait for Cocktail to be released to get your 15%-off bargain.

And purchasers outside the US buying at http://worlddancenewyork-worldwide.com will have their USD$5.00-extra shipping charge refunded if you buy ANY two DVDs in addition to pre-ordering Cocktail. Just go ahead and order your three (or more) DVDs (including a pre-order of Cocktail) and when I see that come in I will manually send you a refund of the $5.00 shipping charge. it's a great opportunity for dancers outside the US to buy any number of our DVDs for and get completely free shipping - ! ..g.: -- Scott

    Re: WDNY's latest- Cocktail!

Reposting Tanna's fascinating description from Facebook to this board...I hope she is OK w/ that. If not, I'll take it down:

I've been fielding a number of inquiries re: “Cocktail”, and I just wanted to explain the concept/contents of this DVD more fully. I would hate for anyone to be disappointed in their purchase simply bec...ause their expectations were not in line with the nature of the product. So, for those of you up to a little light reading, the following is my lengthy summation!

There seems to be a lot of comparison between “Show Basics” and “Cocktail” and that is apt in terms of aesthetic, though the goal of each product is quite different.

“Show Basics” was designed as an instructional and informative program, intended to define and illustrate the classical American Cabaret bellydance show structure. The show sections were discussed in detail (lots and lots of talking-LOL!), and additional chapters on costuming, makeup, staging, etc. were included. The goal was to enable the viewer to perform their own show, and a 6 minute “mini-show” choreography was also taught. The target audience was derived from women I'd met while teaching who were not interested in studying bellydance for years and years, but who wanted to “play bellydancer” for a single, specific occasion, most often a partner's birthday or an anniversary.

“Cocktail” was designed as a dance-based fitness program, and part of the whole “Luscious”, “Love Potion”, etc. series. It is not an instructional program, and talking is kept to minimum. There is a tutorial segment, but a fairly concise one which is meant to give the non-bellydancer enough information to be able to follow the choreography. A “Beginner's Flow” then arranges the majority of the movements into a fairly simple linear sequence. Next comes the workout, or “danceout” if you prefer. From start to finish it is 30 minutes long. There is an entrance song, a slower song (normally for veil), an upbeat song, a slow ciftitelli, a drum solo and a little finale. The structure repeats itself with the addition of a karsilama after the second drum solo. Bonus material will include several performances by myself and my wonderful fellow dancers Yoshina and Giselle.

see next post for more from Tanna Valentine...

    Re: WDNY's latest- Cocktail!

...quote from Tanna Valentine continued from previous post

“Cocktail” differs from the “Luscious” series primarily in terms of “flavor”. The movements used are all found in classical cabaret bellydance performance, including a few folkloric steps. The music used is actual AmCab performance songs, in their entirety. This means that repetitions of chorus and refrain are periodically interrupted with spontaneous drum accents or a lingering ciftitelli segment. Choreographing this product was extremely challenging (LOL!). The plan was to keep it simple enough that beginners could successfully follow the program, yet have sufficient complexity that more experienced dancers could also find value in it. My initial choreography had to have its content cut by @ 50%, as it was just too difficult for viewers to execute. The final choreography is (I hope!) organic and enjoyable, with logical movement combinations. There is sufficient repetition to allow technique and musicality to flow in a dance-drill manner, but there are also some intermediate-level transitions and combinations that might prove a little challenging to the less-experienced dancer. The choreographic structure, taken as whole, should prove a useful tool for the developing AmCab dancer who wants to expand her cabaret show vocabulary and work on her pacing.

Whew! This is a lot of information, but I really hope it helps it help to clarify the content of “Cocktail”. If anyone has any questions or would like other details, please feel free to contact me directly and I'll be happy to help as much as I can.

    Thank you!

    -Tanna

October 26th is not that far away! Woohoo!

it would be great to have a varied series.. different instructors! i picture it is difficult for one to conceptualize many episodes from what Tanna writes (congratulations to Neon for doing three in like 2 years :) )

Just checking back to see if any trailer's been posted yet...also checked Amazon and the WDNY site, just in case, but no luck. BUT, WDNY is offering free shipping as well as a 15% discount for 2+ dvd orders, so may have to pre-order sight unseen! (ha, like I wouldn't order this dvd anyway).

And yes, love the gorgeous simplicity and bright tropical colors of the cover costumes - yummy!

I'm totally guilty of surfing for a trailer! But they don't need to sell me on it...I already preordered.
