Thread: Samasem show DVD/CD set

I´m one of her fans who later became her student-just have to share the news with you all;
Samasem´s BIG show in Stockholm 2005 is about to be released as a DVD with companion CD:s of live music with the Cairo Orchestra+singers Samir El Hosseiny&Simsim El Amir!

She´s so busy that she hasn´t had the time to look through the raw material(would need a personal assistant badly)to edit it in 5 years,and I thought it would *never happen*...but today she sent the first snippets that she uploaded on Youtube,enjoy:

Oh my, that dress in Wala ya wala. HOLY ICE CAPADES! This looks like it has some good stuff. I subscribe to her on Youtube and I didn't get anything, matter of fact nothing has updated in my friends and subscriptions feed. Hmmmm.

The filmed show is her last show,and a goodbye to performing.

After seeing/hearing raw materials I can happily announce that:
1.This is a DVD for dancers;
closeups of facial expressions,filming musicians or audience reactions are kept to a minimum and the focus is almost 100% on a full body view of Samasem,no doubt about what steps are used!
(I´m often frustrated with monkey-cam filming of full shows,not being able to see what the dancer is doing)

2.The music is lovely


Right now Marita is in Jamaica,and will continue production when she comes back.

Will keep you updated on when it´s avaliable!

Oh wow, I love Samasen. This is definately a must get.

I would imagine she designed it herself. she designed most of her own stuff

No,she retired some years ago to move home to and dedicate to teaching.

Yes,that´s an older "cheeky"costume,I can attest to that while the illusion is naughty-it´s not "sitting low"
Her older costumes were made by Mdme Rawjiya,and some by Amira Kattan´s team after her designs.But most are made by her.

She brought her costumes to the studio for us to study her way of cutting and beading...AND BORROW to gigs!

I think a few of them was borrowed or bought by Sabriye Tekbilek also(not sure).

During what period did Samasem work in Cairo and for how long etc?

It would be good to start a thread on this as I would love to know more about the various dancers who started dancing in Cairo.

I know Leyla Amir (now based in Las Vegas) was the first ever foreign dancer to hold a belly dance license in Cairo and her first ever gig was standing in for Nagwa Fouad.

I´ve heard about Leyla just the last year,when did she come,how long did she stay?(would be wonderful to see clips!)

On my computor I found a a scribbled CV. bio with Maritas venues that I wrote down for an upcoming workshop about 5 years ago.
Will ask for the exact dates when she comes back so I can give correct info!

Contracts outside Egypt:England(London 1986),Arab Emirates,Yemen,Tunisia,Morocco,Oman,Malaysia,Indon esia,Sri Lanka&India etc
Singers:Ehab Tawfiq, Mohammed el-Helw, Ahmed Adawiya and Khaled Agag.
