Hey girls!

What do you think is the best dvd to learn zills?
(I already had some lessons and WS, so I am not a total beginner...)

Killer Ziller (Michelle Joyce)?
Bellydance with zills (Elsa Leandros)?
Zill Speak - How to Play Finger Cymbals from A(lmee) to Z(ills) (Elizabeth Artemis Mourat)?

Or another one maybe?

Hands down Artemis' CD! It is the most comprehensive and solid instruction. She covers history, multiple ways of thinking about the rhythms and works with different sounds. The CD also includes a written out zill solo as an example and practice challenge for really putting things together. Even though it took me a while to warm up to it, I like how her (very systematic and firmly grounded) approach maps rhythms to nursery rhymes, which can help bringing more attitude to one's playing if one uses it well. I now use that a lot, including when I come up with new zills riffs myself, it is a great tool to get from patterns to making music.

I have worked with Artemis' CD (and with her in person), and it has taken my cymbal playing to a completely different level.

I love Killer Ziller for as a very accessible dvd for zilling newbies. It really helped me. The above cd sounds very interesting too!

Jamila salimours CD is AWESOME, this is a great tool. you can get it from suhailas website.

I 2nd this....I used it a TON and probably should be using it again now. I wouldn't bother with the book again though but that might just be me.

i think learning the basics in a workshop and then just pracitce on your own is the best, forcing yourself to practice practice practice... ask nasreen...

she said we had to wait till summer for more zills WS...

Luckily Khalida is giving one in february!

The thing is I can't always remember different rythms after a WS so a CD or DVD could come in handy then...

aha, or take notes next time... lol. i'll see if we have the zills pattern notes lying around somewhere for you...

rhytm cds are nice to have also!

Zoe, i think i have the Jamila cd (need to dig and find it, but pretty sure i do) and i recommend it too :)
