Thread: RAW ROMAN is almost out - I'm sooooo excited - pre-order is available YAY!

Sorry for the all caps, but I'm so super stoked! I knew it was coming but I finally got to pre-order today.

Raw Roman with Reyhan and Delpha.

When I visited Istanbul, Delpha set up and prepped me for Reyhan's classes and I have to admit, it was an incredibly invaluable combination and you'll get that and more from this DVD.

I can't think of a better way to present a cultural artform then this DVD is going to do. They give you background and history, the movements demonstrated and performed by a great Roman dancer, then broken down and interpreted by the technical mind of a trained dancer that speaks my language. All to an incredible soundtrack with musical break down...what! It doesn't get more awesome than this.



If you have any interest in Turkish Roman dance at all, this is an absolute must have, one of a kind, real thing, incredible DVD coming. I'm sooo stoked.

Disclaimer, I am friends with David and Delpha and have studied a few times with Reyhan, but I don't get anything out of promoting this DVD except the pleasure of having shared something totally awesome that I happen to know about.

Oh, and if you don't already know who Reyhan Tuzsuz is, she is an incredible Roman woman and dancer.

She is not just the real thing, but an awesomely talented representation of authentic Turkish Romany dance.

She was the person who taught Elizabeth Strong, Jessaiah Zure, Jennet Shook and Delpha Reihs to do real Roman styling. Anybody who knows Turkish dance and knows Reyhan Tuzsuz gives her props. Even respected researchers and dance instructors Helene Eriksen, Morocco and Artemis have studied with Reyhan. Dancers from all over the world go to study with Reyhan.

She is an inspiration.

Just got an email - there were technical problems in the manufacturing process and they hope to be able to ship the DVDs by the end of this week. And, I also got the soundtrack, which is really awesome.

Me, too, so happy I pre-ordered! A free soundtrack is definitely worth the wait.

Oh, hot damn. Wow. I'm so getting this DVD.

Mine came yesterday. I got a chance to watch parts of it, but have a sick baby so I couldn't watch the entire DVD yet. IT IS AWESOME!!!!!

Mine came on Monday, and I am finally putting it on today- yippee!
(my husband also said that is NOT the photo he expected from something called "Raw Roman"- heh. Whatever.)

Luck lucky girls, I'm still waiting for mine (but that's expected, it takes about 10 days for a package to make it from the the US to Israel).

First of all it´s a stroke of *genius* to have Reyhan do her natural style AND THEN have Delpha break movements down in detail "western pedagogic style".

I also really appreciate the including of cultural background,and music/rythm information.

I followed the advertising link on the forum pages and discovered the DVD that way. I was ready to start a thread asking if anyone has worked with it yet and found this thread. Great.
I've been Egyptian style for over a decade and there's this little voice inside me guiding me towards Turkish style lately. I'm just starting to explore it with Ruby's DVD (she is so fabulous!). I'm interested in Raw Roman too but $40 is too steep for my budget right now. I'm assuming the $10 off discount period is over - or is it? If it goes on sale or if someone is ready to part with theirs, I'm in!

I think it depends a lot on what you are looking for. Reyhan's Raw Roman is not bellydance in the strict sense, it is not about Turkish Oriental. Instead, it is a fabulous, in-depth DVD on Turkish Romani dance. So, if you are an Egyptian-trained dancer who wants to add a few Turkish combinations to her performances, you may not find that DVD the ideal choice. If you are more like me, dedicated to all things Turkish and excited about delving into the roots, completely transfixed by in-depth coverage of foundational moves, and just love, love, love those earthy Turkish 9s, this DVD is the best thing ever.

My dvd arrived and I love it.
My only concern is that the dvd has a purple back instead of the usual silver.

Got mine and watched it this week as I prep for teaching at Art of the Belly. It's fabulous and David and Delpha did an excellent job.
I am absolutely thrilled with this and glad that through this DVD Reyhan will be able to reach more dancers with her awesomeness!

just wanted to add that I also consider Reyhan my primary teacher in this style of dance - she is fabulous and changed my way of dancing Roman and understanding it forever. She and her family are wonderful people and I recommend study with her if you get the chance.
