Oops. my mistake! That's what comes of posting before I'm really awake. But I'm still curious about the perceived spelling mistakes, I saw the odd letter missed off the end of a word, but not lots of mistakes. Grammar, yes. Spelling, no.

I do agree things have changed regarding grammar and spelling and punctuation. I am sorry to see certain Americanisms creep into our language and for some attractive old oddities of my language disappearing but hey ho as long as we are clear in what we say....
Sometimes those of us who write long and involved posts, messages do not get their point over as some of us glaze over. I have become terribly lazy myself despite having been a teacher and I have got to the point that as long as the message is clear
w(h)ether there is a dropped ' or a color instead of colour..I'm cool!

Hey Lizajuk, I'm always up for a spot of proofing, I'll drop you a pm with my email addy.

Jahbie- maybe i should have said typoes instead of spelling mistakes (and I totally googled for the plural form of typo, which apparently is typos )

I think the prospects for performing in the UK are rather limited compared with the US. The pros I know do a lot more teaching than they do private gigs; GenevieveOfAtlanta's comment sums it up pretty well.

I do. Variety in training is a good thing, even if one intends to dance only one style, as long as the technique is solid. If you can't take a class in person you may as well get lots of variety in your DVD lessons

the down side was that i didn't know who she was, the connection between her and the "hip down" yet. but im not the sort who can just watch and imitate, i've mentioned before that it took me at least 3 months to learn every new move and Rachel's dvd has a very helpful explanation and approach to learning that particular move.

anyway, it's only related as an example of the advantages of having a competent teacher to guide your learning, which i didn't have for quite some time, and to show the importance of that teacher being able to explain things in many different ways

Sorry I do not see the connection between learning to belly dance and learning to do what Rachel Brice does.
Don't get me wrong,I think she is a goddess but she doesn't belly dance.
OK it's the same old argument but that's the way I see it..want to learn to do ME dance and you don't learn from a yoga inspired tribal dancer however good she may be. Yup learn the chonks from Soheir.

Actually, Rachel first learned from Suhaila, which is where her core technique comes from. Her basic movements are taught in such a way they can be translated to more than just "tribal". See the above example of learning the Zaki move from Rachel. She teaches people the proper posture and muscles to use, and that's really what counts. If someone can teach me how to get great mayas using proper muscle isolation in a way which is well explained... sign me up.

Besides, cross training is important in any dance. I don't see why cross training in BD styles can't be good too. I was in a "tribal fusion" troupe for a few years and learned from a fusion teacher. As a soloist I am a cabaret girl. I would absolutely say that what I learned from tribal fusion helped me as a dancer as a whole.

I thought that Rachel first learned from a local in Orange County, CA with a very "small" name, and only learned later from Suhaila?

She had several dvds out at one time. Of course they were billed as "performance" dvds, but to me they were the best instructional vids I've ever seen.

Did I miss something? Is the OP not the person whose website is under discussion? I thought it was an advertisement.

I think we're all assuming the OP is afiliated with the dancer on the website...and likely the dancer herself.

    AGREED!
. . . and save yourself from future siatica (sp?) and learn from Soheir or someone like Hadia, a physical therapist AND master performer and instructor. She really knows how the body works, and how it works in MED. Anyone taken her Teacher Training? She is amazing.
