Thread: WDNY Exotic Dance - Private Dancer preview - anybody seen it?

hi everybody,

Just this morning I saw the preview of the private dancer dvd by Lady M for WDNY on youtube.. I did not think it would be something for me, but the trailer looked "forbiddenly" fun. i dont even think i'd dance this style for the SO, but i definitely want to try that out just by myself. the "rump shakers" look like (somewhat twisted, for me, type of) FUN

Anyhoo.. the trailer seems to be removed.. i hope it will be up again, i d like to see if that interest in said "different" moves lasts for me...

anybody whos seen the trailer - did you like it?

I Like it! I've always wanted todo one of Lady M's DVDs as she seems like a lot of fun. I'd never want to perform exotic dance, but it might be nice to have a proper hobby hobby than a work hobby!

I can't help but wonder whether the bonus "conditioning workout" would be good prep for bellydance floorwork as well as exotic dancing.

I've seen the pre-view and I have Lady M's two previous dvd's. And they are alot of fun when it's just me in my living room shaking my booty.
I don't know I'd be game to do it in front of anyone. I'm not that brave.

This does look like fun to do at home (alone) when you want something fun and different. I think my hubby would just burst out laughing if I tried to do any of it. Guess you have to have the figure...

I don't think i'd even want to do that EEEVER in front of the significant other... i m a chicken, firstly, no denying that and i would not be able to FEEL the way one needs to to convey this very special "hot" confidence.. I'd be the first one not buying that of myself and ya, hubby neither I fear!!

I do think it could be fun to try it really just for yourself. play dressup but without showing anyone else.. i wished this was out already..

also - i m wonderin, i may be ideologically uncomfortabe to dance THIS way for any man, even if its the one you love and trust. just not the kind of gender relations i am very comfortable with UNLESS he chose to do the same for me. which will happen only when hell freezes!

Solid question...SCOTT, pop in and tell us about what sort of muscles/limberness the workout is for...and if we have to do it in a red satin PJ set.

I know Lady M and she's an excellent instructor. I've not taken any of her pole fitness classes, but she's an awesome belly dancer! If you're interested in the DVD for the subject material, get it. You wouldn't be dissapointed. I wish she'd make some belly dance DVDs. She so talented!

Alyssaraqs you are correct about Lady M: She is the world's TOP exotic dance instructor but yes she is also an excellent tribal-style bellydancer, really worth seeing if you get the chance. She has recently moved from New Orleans to Kentucky so KY, Middle TN, IN, and Southern OH residents be on the lookout for Lady M!

Ozma and da Sage: You asked about Lady M's conditioning workout on this DVD: It is AMAZING! It is 45 minutes long and includes a lot of stretching ("limbering" "flexibility") moves that I will BET you have never seen before: Moves that are spot-on relevant to exotic dance, of course. Many many moves that you just never THOUGHT of doing...and wow what a workout, for anybody.

Da Sage you asked whether the moves in the conditioning work would be useful and appropriate for bellydance floorwork. The answer is 'yes' in that there is descending to the floor and coming up from the floor in the "right" ways and so certainly there is knowledge to be gained in doing that which you can apply anywhere.

That said, you will find that of course the way an exotic dancer gets up from the floor will be quite different (incredibly sexy) from the way a cabaret bellydancer returns to standing position (more demure)...but the body dynamics at work, the use of muscles etc., well there must be plenty that a bellydancer can learn from Lady M's moves and explanations, even if the moves are (obviously) "not bellydance."

Lastly Dina you asked about a MALE exotic dance instructional DVD, with Ozma adding the concept of including a GIANT HELLO KITTY doll for him to 'practice' on, LOL...... Well with regard to those ideas I...I...er...don't know what to say...! :)

However I will tell you both a secret. (This is for Dina and Ozma only): While the step-by-step instructional portion of Lady M's DVD is done with a Teddy Bear, at the end of the DVD she does all those same moves with a REAL LIVE GUY! Yes, Lady M actually dances for -- and on -- her REAL LIVE BOYFRIEND on this video!. And as you might imagine he is a very good-looking guy. You are gonna love this. Maybe not as much as HE did .... but a lot. :)

P.S.: Everybody keeps their clothes on, of course. This is family entertainment.

I picked up my parcel just this morning. Private Dancer looks totally fun, cheeky and awesome (if the trailer does not scare you off this more daring form of dancing then this really is for you IMO). I had to fastforward to the private dance after Scott's very private announcement to me and Ozma!
Let me say this is really very private dancing, and if you're a little uptight like me it may make you blush. but it is absolutely classy and even a little (naughty) fun to watch. I do not want to give anything away but her private dance is actually not at all the type you'd see ladies do in movie scenes. She does moves you've never seen, f.e. she (lightly) punches her guy with her hip (that one actually looked like a lot of fun!! even more so for the dancing lady than the guy, maybe? ), so if you are uncomfortable with the type of "private dancing" on tv, I found this one so much better. Already the trailer I liked, but could not really name why. After seeing the private dance for her guy I think I know why. She is fun, very very confident, and I don't find her private dance sleazy or submissive at all. She is in total control, and it is just really fun to watch. I totally want to try her moves, too! I could only take a glimpse into the dvd, but I can say it looks like so much fun. And it s something totally fresh and different, and that with a very classy take on a tricky subject.

Overall, if my feelings are representative of people who love world dance, and are generally a little skeptical about "exotic dance" for political/ideological reasons, I personally find this take fantastic. I do not feel uncomfortable with the presentations at all, it is a very self-determined, classy representation of female cheekiness and sexuality. And I can agree it must be family entertainment if I enjoy it. As I said, I may have a little uptight standards for many reasons, be it culture or feminism or all together.

So, hey, a private dance dvd fullheartedly recommended (at first glance, I have to add, but after the trailer and the couch dance, I am quite sure the instruction part will be no different) by a hardcore feminist. Isn't that an achievement!


Ps. Any chance you'll be stocking the outfit required for the private dance? Or link to where one can safely/privately buy them online?

Pps. I wonder if I can ever do the "big rollover". If you want to know what that is, you'll have to see for yourself I'm not going to tell more!

ps they say they're heavy - I appreciate the warning, there's nothing worse than earrings which give you headaches because they pull on your ears so much. These ones - for my standards - really aren't heavy, so if you are unsure on whether you should give them a try for weight reasons, I personally think they're rather average weight. I think I would dance with these, but there again I am wearing massive chandeliers most of the time.

In her preview vid (above) she mentions that she does not cover the moves in her "previous work" - and that this is an advanced dvd.

Now that you have it, would you say that the getting the first vid first would be a good idea, or can anyone get this one and

"make it work"

I am waiting for the right mood to try this out. From looking at it, there are some pretty advanced moves!!! But I think it would be fun to try and grow into it. It is a challenging dvd or sure, so if one wants to start slow-slow one will do either certain parts of the dvd first, and wait with others, or indeed start with the earlier ones!

ndi-mi the answer is that the PRIVATE DANCER DVD is more advanced that Lady M's first two DVDs, but that does not mean you must see the first ones before trying this one.

Also this DVD has something very important in the 45-minute exotic-dance-specific workout at the start: A whole DVD in itself before Lady M even begins to teach the Private Dancer moves.

The "Private Dancer" title was selected very carefully.. It really does mean a dance that you would normally do in private for your man...or -- in a strip club -- publically, but directed at only one person in the audience.

That is, a lap dance.

Still, many of the moves Lady M teaches can be used in other parts of the exotic dance experience -- the on-stage portion, for example, far from the viewer (unlike the up-close lap dance).

Lady M teaches all this in a very meaningful and professional, even complex way. She and the many women with whom she has worked over the years have given names to all the standard moves of exotic dance. Lady M teaches all of this in PRIVATE DANCER as no one else in the world has ever done on video. I am grateful to Dina for saying so well and so clearly how 'classy' Lady M really is in instructing on this type of dance.

Is exotic dance a pro-feminine art form? This is a question relevant to the many proud, empowered women who are reading this thread here on Bhuz.com: How best to come to terms with exotic dance?

My answer is that many if not all forms of dance include some "sexy" behavior, some "flirtatious" moves and looks.

Thus, dance always involves some modicum of sexual enticement...and in many / most cases 'more than a modicum...'

The difference in the exotic dance genre is merely that the 'sexiness' and 'flirting' are taken to greater, and greater, and greater heights than in other forms of dance.

Exotic dance is "as far as you can go" in that direction. It is the least conservative of all the dances in the world.

So extreme is exotic dance that it is not unusual for the performer to remove her clothes while dancing - indeed it is the norm that she do this. What is special, and different, and female-empowered about Lady M is that she does not take any clothes off in her DVDs: There is no nudity on any Lady M DVD -- and this is not because the nudity has been removed or avoided: No, these instructional presentations specifically teach how to be very, very VERY sexy... while keeping all your clothes on.
