Thread: So, what did you think? Your Feedback on the Project BD Final 6 DVD

I'm taking a quick break from studying for my finals today and my head popped over to the Project BD Final 6 DVD that was recently released with a section by yours truly and I was wondering what y'all thought?

It would be great to hear feedback on the product in general, but I selfishly want to know what you thought of my section.

I've been mulling over this DVD making thing and I think I'd like to try and do another at some point in the future, but, I think feedback on my first attempt of this kind would be useful.

Anybody got a copy yet and watch it? Try it out? Thoughts?

I loved the whole DVD & would absolutely buy DVDs from all of you. The judges were spot on with the talent they chose & that's not negating what anyone else could have offered. I just thought a good job was done by all.

Your section: I've only seen it once. I can't off the top of my head remember what you did but I do remember being proud that you're here on Bhuz with us & that it's nice to put a personality, teacher and awesome dancer to the name. And please don't be disappointed that I don't remember exactly what you did because I bought several DVDs along with Final 6 & it's all starting to run together, plus I had one from Netflix.

I'll try to look at your section tonight & come back to tell you better what I thought. For me, it's always better looking at it the 2nd & 3rd time around. You were great, tho.

Another thing, I think I mentioned in the Michelle Joyce's thread where she had the survey questions, that I would buy DVDs from all of you but that I would also look for & take workshops from you. You've got a fan here & your hair didn't distract me when you were dancing at all.

I just opened mine, and have done Karolina's and Yvonne's sections once each. Hoping to try another one tonight after the kiddo's are in bed (if I'm still awake after practicing my restautant sets for this weekend). I'm planning to work through all of them once before I settle down to work with them- then it will be in order of my favorites.

I'll post what I think of yours after I watch it.

I have done some of the sections but not all of them yet. I haven't got to yours but I'll let you know what I think when I do. :)

So far the instruction has been very good and useful. There is loads of great content on that dvd!

I will say though that I am disappointed by the production quality. The video sometimes is very blurry and out of focus and the audio quality is poor. Also that nasty brick background is pretty ugly.

I watched again last night & thought you did a very good job. I've learned so much. Kepi is right, so much good content & all in one video. I also liked how they seperated it so you can go to exactly the section you want. That was nice. My video/audio quality was fine. I didn't notice anything odd. The brick background was only mildly distracting for me. The teachers were so great, I was almost totally focused on them instead of the background.

Now to you Shems. I learned so much from you & appreciate what you taught. I know that when I practice & use the things you taught, it will help my dancing improve. I won't give anything away but after watching it the 2nd time, I had several ah-ha moments and am really glad I bought the DVD. Each one of you was so unique. I really hope they do another one. If you want to pm me, I'll go into detail. Take care.

I wonder if your copy is defective - I didn't see any audio/video problems while editing. Email me privately for a replacement, and if you could let me know the time code for the parts you are referring to I can go back and have a look to make sure the problem isn't on my end.

I've watched Yvonne's and Karolina's, and there aren't any issues with my copy, at least for those 2 sections.

I've only watched the first couple sections so far, but will make sure to watch it through so I can get you feedback, Shems.

So far the DVD is pretty good. One minor production issue is lighting. There has been some shadowing behind the instructors and it's a little distracting.

I'll get back to you on the specific section once I've checked it out. :)

I got the DVD recently and haven't been able to work through the whole thing yet, but I actually did your section this morning.

I loved the concepts and terminology. I think you explained very well, and I took some notes to remind myself to work on those concepts as I work through my own transitions.

The only feedback I can give relates to my own best method for learning. Personally, I need a lot of repetition. A LOT of repetition. For me, the drills on the DVD aren't enough... I would need something like... repeating one transition by itself for close to a minute, before putting it into a combination, and then drilling that for a few minutes before moving on to the next thing. That would really stick it in my muscle memory.

So in order to compensate for it I will watch your section a few more times and then just take your transitions, practice them over and over again, and/or take your concepts and make up my own transitions and practice those over and over again.

I understand though, that this was a DVD with 6 different sections with 6 different dancers and 6 very different topics, so there wasn't enough time available to delve so deeply into each concept and put in that much repetition. But if you ever do a DVD by yourself, that could be something to think about.

Also, if I can make a suggestion on your next DVD: do cane!
