Thread: Bollywood dance dvd for beginners

I just discovered this on youtube:


A new WDNY dvd on bollywood dance for beginners.
I see myself trying lots of new stuff lately like salsa, bachata etc. and the private dance, hip hop fusion/Anasma dvds by wdny have been really great for that. i feel a little bad for being a little bored with bellydance these days, but who knows, maybe the passion returns soon :)))
many bollywood dvd trailers look very difficult to me - this one actually makes me believe i will be able to do many of the moves :)

what do you think?
and is it only me or are there very few releases of the usual suspects (hollywood music, cheeky girls, wdny, iamed..) lately??

Well I know I want it!! I think Bollywood is adorable and fun, and I'm happy to see more actual DANCE instructionals rather than the usual fitness ones.

My wallet is happy that there hasn't been much out in the way of DVDs lately. Plus it gives me more time to work on the ones I already have! lol

Has IAMED released anything lately?

I think that there's so many really good videos out there now, at prices that have a much narrower margin of profit, that producers are experiencing a rapidly declining rate of return.

How many dancers out there have resolved not to buy any more videos until they've spent more time working with the ones they have?

Luckily for the video industry, delayed gratification is not my thing.

That said, I'm really curious about Neon's new video: The Body Language of Bellydance

FINALLY! A Bollywood dance video that I would actually recommend! (Other than my own of course )

I never understood why there are so many (often rather crappy) Bollywood workout videos out there and nearly none that actually teach how to DANCE.

She looks really good when she dances and the movements in the trailer are all steps and hand gestures that you would come across in a film.
Plus I really like her clothing :-)

Yay! This looks really fun. I've been wanting to try East Indian Basics out at my studio for awhile now, so getting this video and trying it out will probably make my decision for me. I love Bollywood-the dancing,the music,the movies- so I can't wait to get this dvd. Thanks so much for posting it! :D

I WANT! I've been waiting for a good bollywood dvd to come out. Its something I've always wanted to try. Especially after seeing the BDSS Bombay Bellywood show.

Other than Kaya's instructional and the last in the pop/lock series, no. And I think those were released quite a while ago.

Of course, with a $45 price tag and a spate of dvds that were too light on content, IAMED put itself effectively out of the game for a lot of people.

as an indian, and seeing bollywood dance all my life, i would recommend this dvd. it looks authentic and well done. :)

Can I ask what those of you who know your stuff think of this DVD?

First of all, I don't like the title.
Pet peeve rant: "I do Bollywood" means NOTHING. Please people, say "I do Bollywood Dance"!

Bollywood is a name for the Hindi film industry. It means films, music, dancing, acting etc.
You would not walk around saying "I do Hindi film" either, right? You would say "I do Hindi film dance".

So "Learn to Bollywood" is a stupid title, sorry.

I like that the movements and meanings are explained. The production quality seems to be a bit weak on the sound. She seems to have copied some moves of the original choreography from the film (Om Shanti Om).

I would like to throw in the link to my own DVDs that also offer two full choreographies for different levels:
