This is currently the one and only review of the Final 6 DVD on amazon and I'm a little close to the project, seeing how I'm a part of it, but I was wondering if this is how a lot of people saw the DVD? (Of course I'm most curious about the review of my section...she isn't insulting, or anything and I did try to make the material I offered widely accessible, but I don't think I'd consider the material I offered as being only useful for a beginner dancers...now I'm curious what other people thought.)

hmmm...maybe I'll look to see if there is an old thread, knowing me I'm sure I solicited reviews at some point. I like to hear what people think of the work I do.

Re: Is this how you saw it too? Question about a review
I didn't see it that way, and I disagree with that assessment. I think your section is useful for all levels, but I think dancers with considerably more than the basics under their belts can benefit from it more fully. That's one of the things I like about it, actually: you're starting from concepts, which can offer more scope for continued learning, experimentation, and application than straight-up movement does.
Disclaimer: I've seen dancers at multiple levels significantly challenged by some of that same material in a workshop, so I'm not coming to it with completely fresh eyes.

i dont think so. everyone will have dancer sections they love and ones not so much which is why i like the variety on the dvd. Also has to do with what each indivdual dancer watching is strong on or weak on.

Re: Is this how you saw it too? Question about a review
I have stopped reading most reviews these days. I've found that I disregard the positive ones and take the bad/indifferent ones too hard.
Trust me, you did a great job. Now turn off the computer and go dance :-)

Re: Is this how you saw it too? Question about a review
I *haven't* seen it, and so shouldn't even be weighing in, but I've found that just-past-beginner dancers often believe material is "for beginner dancers" that really is not, and with a few years more bellydance under their belts they understand that.
There is a hilarious review of Ranya Renee's Baladi DVD set of this ilk on Amazon somewhere. Insulting too, but largely hilarious because the reviewer totally doesn't get it. So, you're in good company.Driving Bhuzzers away with her awfulness since 2001!

Re: Is this how you saw it too? Question about a review
Just going on the trailer footage, its quite possible that those layered movements and subtle transitions might be too much for a beginner. Don't worry about the review. Its only one person's perspective, and we don't know their baseline for their comments.

Re: Is this how you saw it too? Question about a review
I asked you guys to create a DVD that was geared toward intermediate dancers, and that is exactly what you did.
And, it is true, a lot of people don't actually have an accurate idea of the level they are. Intermediate level with their teacher might still be Beginner level with another teacher... etc, etc. There isn't a universal way to define belly dance levels, so it isn't personal if there is disagreement.
If you look at DVDs that have a large number of reviews, you will see a lot of disagreement about what level they are.
