    Khaleeji

    Hi

Can anyone point me in the direction of some instrumental khaleeji music please?
My teacher wants to teach us it for a local charity event but because she's not internet savvy I volunteered to try and find some music for us to use and so here I am. I happened across Bhuz whilst looking for online dance communities - what a fab place! :)

    Hi Stacey,

I have five small clips of Kuwaiti (I think) music from You Tube. They aren't instrumental, but they show the dance and you can hear the Khaleeji rhythm If you haven't searched their yet go look it has lots of good stuff.

I'd be interested in any recommendations too! I have loads of it knocking around but it's pretty much all with singing and whilst I like what I have, some instrumentals would be really nice. :)

PS Thanks for the nice clips Michelle! :)

    Hi Stacey,

If no one comes up trumps here are a couple general recommendations for you - The Best Khaleeji Album in the World (no instrumentals but some nice songs) and Australian dancer Amera's CD Wahyatak Habibi has a lovely khaleeji track called Ghareeb Al Rai.

The only instrumental that immediately springs to mind is Abart El Shat which is on Champagne Belly Dance by Setrak. You could probably get both of the last two from Aladdins Cave www.aladdinscave.com the Best Khaleeji Album in the World and it's twin The Best Khaleeji Album in the World - Ever, I bought on eBay.

The first clip has an Iraqi feel to it. Which would make sense because of Kuwait's proximity to Southern Iraq.

There's also a very popular instrumental version of Beaad (sometimes also called Aba'ad, Laila, and lots of other names) on this album: "Best Belly Dance Album in the World... Ever!"

Yeah it had the tiny drum sound that alot of iraqy songs have. Not sure what that drum is called.

    Iraqy dancing has more jumping

I think the drum you speak of is called a "chobi"...Yeah Iraqi dancing is more jumpy and the hair tosses are more "violent". It shouldn't be called Khaleeji because it is it's own dance, I've heard it called Kawaliya.

This is probably too late for glitter girl's project, but I just got a CD with a nice, long khaleeji instrumental on it. It's Nagwa Fouad's CD, just titled 'belly dance' and the track is 'Rakset Al Saoudi'

It's not exactly a traditional sound, but it's kind of a fun little piece.
