Thread: These glutes are made for walking

This gave me a chuckle, especially after our discussion about Suhaila on the other thread.

I totally mean this in good fun. The comments from some of the YouTubers are just awful.

I love how they video has the word "glutes" dubbed in--so lame, but so funny!

That's the one they were showing on Ellen, music & all (and you're right, the fact that they don't even TRY to smooth out the dubbing is what makes it so FUNNY!)

when I checked a couple of months ago, that clilp was by FAR the most-watched bellydance clip on youtube. And that was before Ellen got a hold of it!

ROTFLMAO! ..l;, That's so brilliant! So funny...and I'm laughing in a good way, not a catty one.

This is now going to become a teaching aid...last night in class I was showing some of my students how they could change the quality of hipdrops by squeezing the opposite glute. Many of them were perplexed in the extreme by glute isolation...now I can direct them to this clip......g.:

Suhaila is just amazing when it comes to her muscle control.

I remember when I first saw these exercises in class. It took all the strength in the world to stifle the biggest belly laugh ever imagined! I wanted to point and scream with laughter seeing everyone's butts jump up and down! But, it works for putting that snap in hipwork. And, from my experience, it's really helpful in layering.

My daughter loves that video because of the dancing butts.

I loved this too. I actually have a Persian friend that looks exactly like Suhaila, well, their noses are slightly different, but from a distance it would be very hard to tell them apart.

Well, this glutes video is getting so widespread that I now have had students asking if this is a typical bellydance thing that all bellydancers do, and whether it is serious or meant to be funny. As if I didn't already have enough stuff to explain on a constant basis... this is getting a bit exhausting.

This leads me to wonder how many/how often do dance instructors do teach to what degree the Suhaila method? Why or why not? Do the instructors use her torturous (I say that with love! haha!) warm uips?

My instructor, God love her, is a Suhailite (I have to use some sort of word to describe us!) who uses most, if not all, the killer warm ups, including the glutes.

How many of us Suhailites are in here?

You can count me as One.... or maybe Two if you count yourself.... Its my goal to get certified in all her levels. Lucky for me my Instructor is working on her level three..... Suhaila Raks!

I had a tribal teacher who always did the Suhaila warmup... gotta say, the flat-back squats made me feel lucky to be a masochist!

Suhaila's exercises are also great for those of us who just want to look great in shorts...

I teach her method because I think it's a great method. :) And yes, I use the warm-ups.
