Thread: SOLD OUT - Sahra's 3-day folkloric intensive in Iowa

Kahraman Near East Dance Ensemble will present Sahra's three-day Journey Through Egypt intensive program on Egyptian folkloric dance in Iowa City, Iowa July 18-20, 2008. Although Sahra is teaching other workshops in other parts of the Midwest this year, Iowa City is the only Midwestern location where she will be teaching her 20-hour folkloric program that culminates in a certification.

Due to the intensive nature of this course, we will be accepting a maximum of 25 registrations. This is your opportunity to study from a master instructor in a small class size environment for an affordable price.

Upon completing the full 20 hours of instruction, attendees will receive:
* A teaching notebook
* Map of folkloric zones
* New "Journey Through Egypt" DVD
* Music CD
* Certificate

I am thinking that I would really like to do this . . . now how to manage all the things I want to do!!! I was trying to decide if I wanted to go for Shareen El Safy too . . . . must make a decision soon!!!

One thing in it's favor . . . probably cheaper for me to get to Iowa then to go over to Virginia. . . . maybe . . . airfares are unpredictable.

Lucy, is there someone in the area we can convince to bring Sahra here?

It seems like she definately has lived/researched in Egypt.
One question to those who know more about her. Is her real name Carolee Kent? Because while looking through library catalogs, I found a thesis titled "Egyptian dance and Music in the Cairo Wedding Procession" by a Carolee Kent.

I would love for this to come to DC. I've tried to put a bug in somebody's ear about it -- don't know if it's the same lead as yours, K, but please follow yours and see if you get anywhere! There are five or ten people right on this board who I'm sure would attend. I wonder how many we would need to make it work.

Yes, this is her thesis.

I totally recommend this course to anyone looking to expand their knowledge of Egyptian dance and culture. Sahra is AWESOME, such a wealth of information and so personally invested in all of it.

I loved this program-I was in the first class (#5 in the picture I think, redhead in green/gold)

I was wondering if I could work up interest in the DFW area. Checking airfares for Iowa, I thought that it just isn't meant to be right now . . . too many other things that I have to pay for that are close to that. So I got my thinking cap on . . . . anyone else in DFW reading this that might be interested??

This sounds like such an amazing program! I wish I had planned my time and money better, but I'm out of both when it comes to this event. I'm so envious of those of you who are going!

This 3-day with Sahra and Fifi can make me travel from Greece to USA !!!

She's doing another one in LA in August, but you should contact her and register now because it'll probably sell out in nuttin' flat like the last two.

It's an awesome program!!

I attended the San Francisco 3-day and it was GREAT! I learned a LOT about folk dance, both historical and current, from all over Egypt. If you have a chance to go, DO IT! Sahra is SUCH a great source and what a beatiful dancer too!

I just signed up for it. I sure hope there's space because I just read it and it said there were only 7 spaces left as of April 20th...

Update: the one in Iowa has only 7 spots left.

If it is in the Summer time, I can definately try to make it, if it is during the school year, it will be harder for me to attend. But, I'm definately interested if the timing is right. Best of luck finding enough people interested. I went to Sahra Saeeda's workshops in Fortworth 2 years ago when I still lived in Alabama and it was great and I'm ready for more workshops by her.
PS:
I'm so ready to move back to Texas, five more years to go till hubby's retirement. Then we are moving back. (Maybe move back even sooner, crossing fingers that I'll be able to).

I would like to recommend this as well, though I'm not sure she needs recommendations :). She was here in denmark a few weeks ago giving a 1-day "light version" of this workshop. It was excellent and I would LOVE to have more of it!
She's so knowleadgeable and generous as well as having the loveliest personality.She is also VERY clear on what she is teaching, whether it's an authentic move or influenced from the gulf or made up by mahmoud reda. No confusion there.
