    More Shamadan questions...

I almost posted this on another thread, but I didn't want to be a thread-jacker.

    so, here's *my* shamadan question:

My troupe is doing a couple of numbers in a row, and the first is a shamadan piece (only 4 of us will be wearing them,) and then a cane dance.

We all decided to wear head scarves/turbans for the cane dance...but is there a way to wear a turban that a shamadan will fit over it? Since the Shamadan piece is first, I'll have to already have my turban on. I suppose I could just wear a simple head scarf, but we want to look uniform....

    Any suggestions? :)

Is there a way you can make turban type hats that would be easy to put on right after your shamadan piece? Maybe pre-measure them to your heads and then stitch them together so you can take it on and off? Just a thought.

I wear a head scarf under my shamadan but I would be hard pressed to fit a turban under that thing.

The head piece on my shamadan is set to a certain size and I wouldn't go adjusting that now as it's all pretty finely tuned... a tightened bolt here, a rubber washer there. Not to mention that it's from Egypt and some parts are a little flimsy, if I were to adjust it frequently for different head wear I don't think those parts would last long.

I like Basimahdalal's idea of pre-forming a turban and slipping it on once you remove the shamadan

I think I like that idea, too...I'll have to talk to my teacher about this, as well. :)

I think this is the way to go - the idea of wearing a turban under my Shemadan terrifies me beyond the capacity for rational thought! ..g.:

    <---Shamadan newbie. :)

Just the idea of having a turban under it didn't work for me...how would that work? I'm not sure we're even doing "turban" style head coverings now anyway, because we'll be using the fabric from the veil/head scarf in our routines.

Eitherway....I'll talk to my teacher on Saturday, I just wanted some ideas to present her with. :)

    thanks everyone!

    Zorba, I share your fear

Once you have developed Your particular way of securing and balancing Your shamadan on your head, wether it's straight on the hair or padded out with scarfs etc, then you are not going to want to deviate from that to a drastic degree.

Tell me about it. I added some decorative Bobesches (wax cups) to mine - screwed up the balance something awful - I had to take 'em back off. Thank Goddess it happened in a rehearsal!
