Recommendations for Egyptian BD Music???
As a collector of music, I have 400 CD's and counting, I am always on the look-out for some really good music.
I dance Egyptian Cabaret Style, mostly at restaurants and parties. I like traditional stuff, songs with lots of changes in tempo and rhythym.
Last CD I got that I loved was Jasmin Jahlal's new one. I also liked some of the taxsims on Sepent's Rapture, Love the Jalilah's Raks Sharki Series. Like Best of Ya Salaam, Bahaia's last CD, Leila's last CD, just ordered her new one from Serpentine, etc. I have the bddss cd's - hated 4, loved 1, 2 and 3. Sick of pop and remixes.
Would LOVE to get some more recommendations from Bhuzzers in case there is something out there I do not have.
What I like: big, small and medium orchestration
Rhythym changes and tempo changes
Egyptian/Lebanese music
What I don't like: Cheesy synthesizer caliope type music
What are your favorites??????

"Ya Bahaia" of course, is a great CD!
My favorites? Old stuff, from the 70's and 80's that Nagwa or Soheir Zeki or Fifi Abdo would have danced to, along with the good stuff put out recently.
You can't go wrong with Jalilah - she's put out the BEST series in recent
times, many thanks to her for keeping the music alive!
I like Safaa Farid - he's done several nice CD's.
The VOS series is chock full of old gems - music every belly dancer should have in her collection - a LOT of Lebanese music! http://www.aladdinscave.com/acatalog..._Of_Stars.html
Bassem Ayoub has many great CD's: http://www.dahlal.com/default.aspx?n=1&c=2
Horacio and Beata's Collection is extensive, and gorgeous - a feast for the ears and for the hips: http://www.oriental-fantasy.com/english/musik.html
These are just a few of my recommendations!
I just heard Kollection for Karen - a recording produced in the 80's, with that crazy 80's synthesizer, but I enjoyed listening to "Andah Alaik" last night - I look forward to listening to the entire CD in-depth.

04-08-2007 07:59 PM #6I don't have al amoura out of everything listed. I have some VOS that I've kept, some sold, 'cause they were just too 70's sounding. The first three Suhaila CD's were good, don't like the new ones, though.
Have a bunch of Baseem Ayoubs and some of Beata's.
Any favorites out there that are not too mainstream ?
Got all the setraks, which most i don't like, too repetitive for my taste.
How do you get Outi's CD?Last edited by *maria*; 04-08-2007 at 08:01 PM.
04-08-2007 08:05 PM #7Completely agree with that! They are the best, and I continuously go back to those CD's over and over.
It's hard to pick my favorite out of the series. They are all equally good.
4 I think is the rhythm one. BUt out of 1, 2,3, 5 and 6, it is a tough call!
Hoping she puts another one out on the market, and soon!

Big Orchestra and Strings
Out of these recommendations I wanted to buy some more Oriental Fantasy CDs, but short of buying & trying them all (budget doesn't allow at present). I am looking for something with a big orchestra sound, particularly with strings in it. I love it when the emphasis in the music is made with the orchestra sound rather than the drums. Are there any in the Oriental Fantasy range that people recommend for that?

One of my favourite Beata Cifuentes cheographies is to "Zineh", which is about 6 mins long, gorgeous orchestral jobbie, I think it's on "Valley of the Kings". The instructional video is brilliant too - I learned a lot from it.
I'l try to upload the track now. Fingers crossed ...
04-09-2007 09:32 AM #12Out of the Beata CD's I like Dances of Pharonic Passion there is a beautiful version of el atlal on there, with voice and just instrumental.

Re Oriental Fantasy - Big Fan!!
I've got a lot of use out of vol. 8 myself, also I love the music on no 2 although it almost too smooth to perform to.

p.s. Caroline - I have 2,3,6,8,10,11 - you are welcome to borrow them to 'try before you buy' if you want.Last edited by zafirah; 04-09-2007 at 10:51 AM. Reason: spelling

I really like the Sami Nossair Orchestra's albums, classic songs in very routine-building-friendly format. He has two albums available on emusic.com.
04-09-2007 06:37 PM #20I'll have to do a re-listen on bellydance with om khoulsoum by daniel serkessian. i have it but haven't listened to it in ages.
i often do that, go back to cd's i haven't listened to in a while, if i still don't like them, for sale they go!

That CD, "Magic of Orient II" by Dr. Gebali is really good. I uploaded Hoss Hoss to bhuz music but its not on the first page. "Cairo Delight" I just love, but you most likely already have that one.

Another vote for Sami Nossair Orchestra here. I have Beyond the Desert, what a fabulous Wahashtanj version!
I'm also lovin' Mahmoud Fadl's Umm Kalthum 2000. Yummy!
(Have to mention the entire BRILLIANT Jalilah series even though you already have it. Can't talk about Egyptian music without bowing down to Jalilah
)
