I am doing this because I am curious and also because I am selfish and want some new music. I am wondering what your favorite (favourite for you UK buzzers) CD is right now. I think mine is Belly Dance: The Music of Mohamed Abdel Wahab. (Golden Era Stuff)

My favorite piece of music is "Fakarouni". I think it is just lovely. I could dance to it every single day.

I love classical orchestral music without lyrics so most of the music I really love represent this style:
I like all the CD:s in Jalilah´s Raks Sharki -series - my favourite of these is no:2 (Amar 14)
Also almost anything in Oriental Fantasy -series by Beata & Horacio are good - my favourite is no:5 (Magic of the Moon)
Music made by Mohamed Sultan for Leila Haddad are also fantastic - Ahla Leila is my favourite of these
Also Star Dance and Moon over Cairo -series by Ibrahim el Samahy are absolutely great but unfortunately these are not available as CD:s (except Amayaguena)

As an opener, I prefer the classical musicals: Sit El Hassan, Ma'shaal, Nagwa, Sahara City.
For an American audience or a party I like Gahwaher on Midnight Magic CD by Dr. Sami Farag.

It's Turkish for me; my current favorite is probably Burhan Ocal's Gypsy Rom (or Sultan's Secret Door). Very Turkish - for those don't care for clarinet and kanoun, that will be torture ;-)

My favorite song of all time is Abdul Halim Hafez singing "Kariat el Fingan." One of my Arabic teachers helped me translate all the lyrics and they're just beautiful -- a poem written by Nizar Qabbani. This is the CD I would want with me on a desert island -- with, of course, a decent CD player and electricity.

I love all of Amani's stuff. I love Nourhan Sharif "Oriental Dance with Nourhan Sharif" (Lebanese style CD). I love a CD my dad-in-law got me by Oxfam called "Think Global: Bellydance". I think it is sold at barnesandnoble.com. Wonderful compilation! Love love love it!
06-06-2007 12:36 AM #11this is a hard question because the answers are many but current favourites are Fatme Serhans best of saidi, in fact any good saidi pieces. Also Ganel el hawa and Fakarouni and how can I not mention the singing of Ru el fouad.

When everyone was raving about it after the Fifi workshop, I ordered the CD with El Enab on it from Rashid's. I *love* it. It's the most fun CD I've bought in a long time!
I've had a lot of good music luck lately. I also recently bought "Drum Attack" by Tony Chamoun. Truly excellent drum solos.

Gosh guys, these are some good recommendations! Anyone else? I have another one to add. It's called Raks Ayoub. It's got Viktoria on the cover. Very interesting drum solos, and I really like the "Zeynat" song on there.

Well, for me is Khaleeji, Khaleeji and more Khaleeji. Right now I am into singers from Emirates: Al Wasmi and I also like Aidha Menhali. From Saudi I like Rashed Al Majed and from Kuwait I like Nabeel Shail, Arwa and Aryyam.
I like al Wasmi for his traditional voice and other ehem..obvious reasons
(He happens to be the sexiest guy in the Gulf!) See his video here
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xkPYp...elated&search=
I am also into Hussam Al Rasam, he is Iraqui, not really Gulf but I find him so attractive and his smile is just killing me LOOOL He does have a nice voice too.

That's true. I pointed this because you wrote earlier "best of saidi, in fact any good saidi pieces..." I wasn't sure if you or the one who is reading will know the difference. Shira had one time an article, where the CD was recomented for saidi. It was not written by Shira, but some other dancer. If you would have written "...best of saidi. I like any CD with good saidi.." Then it would be more clear that you understand that the name is wrong. If some one is looking saidi they might be fooled by the name.
Any way good that you know your songs, no harm done. ..g.:Last edited by outi; 06-07-2007 at 04:59 PM.

I see people doing saidi to songs from that CD all the time, I think the name is very confusing to people!
OTOH, Fifi taught balady cane to 'mdalla ya hilou' from that CD, to further confuse us. ..g.:

Nice list, Sedonia!
Far and away my favorite Enta Omr is from Mahmoud Fadl, on his Umm Kalthoum 7000 CD. It has the most amazing kanoun, and vocals, lots of heart and that magnificent Egyptian angst. (it's also 16 minutes long!)
Best of all, it can be had for only 99 cents from this 'fair trade' world music site: http://mahmoudfadl.calabashmusic.com
(act now and we'll throw in the ginsu knives for free!)

My favorites CD's are Jalilah's Raks Sharki 5 and Very Bellydance.
This song is so popular with Egyptians and is just so suitable for weddings that I've always wanted to like it, but just didn't so much...
Not until I heard Hossam Ramzy's version. It's on the Best of Bellydance from Morocco, Egypt, Lebanon, Turkey CD. It's so beautiful, it could darn near bring tears to my eyes. :-)
