    Putting notches in sword?

Hope this is the right place for this question. I need to file some notches in my sword as it is just way too slippery. Even with beeswax and material head covering it will start off balanced and then once I get going with a move it slides right off. SO, how can I put notches in my sword? What is the best way to do this?
    Thanks!

Just get a file and start notching! Find the balance point and put little notches to roughen it up about 1/2 inch on either side. A little more is ok, if you want.
Some people don't agree with notching, but it helps me.

Once notched coat the metal with something to resist rust. Reapply as necessary. Bare metal will rust.

So is it pretty quick to file the notches or is it more time consuming? Just want to know so that I don't get frustrated. LOL I was trying not to notch it but the blade is just too slick. I have the balance point fine.
    Thanks!

i went to a skate shop and asked for some scrap grip tape. you only need a tiny strip and it works great. and potentially free!

Do you have a dremal(sp?), it's a small tool with many different heads for different uses? Those work well, much quicker than by hand!

Grip tape is GENIUS! Why didn't I think of that?

Sounds like a great fix if you have fine, smooth, "slippery" hair....or if you're looking to channel Animal Chin in your next show.

*crickets and silence* I can't be the only person on here who loves cheesy old-school skate videos.

if you put notches in it, it shouldn't be deep at all, just enuf to rough the surface up and give it texture.............i just got a CAS iberia scimitar and i don't have to notch it at all.....it being carbon steel, it already has i mild texture, but more importantly, that sucker is pretty heavy, so it stays on...................the lighter, stainless steel ones also have a lightly rounded back edge (don't know why they do that, making 'em for dancing n all), the CAS is pretty dang flat as well, not to mention killer balance
