    Democratic Fund Raiser Dance

So...wadda ya think? I come out coverd in a black Abaya to the slow sad part of the Turkish version of "I Will Survive", I throw it off to reaval a red white and blue costume...ok..it's bad...but for a good cause in a very small venue. (Back yard)

Anybody got anything else juicy and funny.....

We once danced at the Cook County Bar Association. Barrack Obama was there. Yay. They had an Egyptian theme. The thing was that no one really looked at us. They seemed very embarassed and just focused on their salads.

Thats pretty much the usual here too...but I am a big golden retriever and have been known to lick people's faces to gain attention....they come around eventually....or else!

Wow, what a great cause to dance for!

I'd probably skip the first part with the black abaya - I don't immediately get what the joke or deeper meaning is (granted, I am not good at getting jokes, so it may be me). I totally dig the idea of a patriotically-colored costume, though - that sounds like great fun.

Black Abaya...the past doldrums of my not so gay "party" now sheds it's dreary colors and comes out swinging...

Hm, I guess I am a bit slow, but I wouldn't have gotten that. However, I can see the reasoning after watching a lot of the DNC, which seemed to have a definite spark.

I am curious to watch the coverage of the GOP convention tonight - I have already started with margaritas, so that I am in a proper mood. ;-)

This kinda along the same lines... my troupe has a sword dance that we do to La Bush Resistance by Balkan Beat Box. There's no red/white/blue costuming, but we do dance it with a lot of "firing up the masses" attitude...g.:

    Cool!

But maybe use something black that isn't so deeply associated with Islam? Cuz I'm a little dense & would've thought you were an oppressed Muslim being 'saved' by the USA. Ugh.

I think that's the similar reason for the strange looks. Being that it's a very political event people are going to be judgmental about everything down to the details of the entertainment. If it was all men, maybe they were trying to avoid being caught on camera staring at the beauties, lol. Funny, but true-no one wants the headlines of them and the wandering eye.

Keep in mind the all black Dress and Hijab seem to be a traditional color, not sure if someone would view that as mockery if you don't have a Middle Eastern look to you.
