    Saidi?

    Unexpectedly, I have gotten to really love Saidi dancing. I especially love the bouncing, hopping footwork. Does anyone know of any good instructional videos on this style, or other resources I should look for? I would also like to know more about the cultural background of the dance.

    I really like Nourhan Sharif's one and also Shareen el Safy's Saidi for Stage is good too.

    Nourhan's Assaya video is my favorite so far. She teaches cane handling, footwork, entrances, finales & combinations, but no choreo. It's really well-done. (and since her husband IS Saidi, I trust her to give me accurate info!)

    It was very funny to hear Nourhan talking about Yousry at a workshop and explaining the assaya posture:

    NOURHAN: You must be very upright, with the chin up. The Saidi are very proud. Aren't they proud, Karim?

    KARIM NAGI: Yes, and often for no reason.

    I'd also recommend Nourhan's video. She moves very quickly through the technique and doesn't explain everything in great detail, so I found myself hitting rewind a lot, but she packs a tremendous amount of information into 45 minutes.
