Palestinian Wedding Rehearsal Dinner
I have been hired to dance at a Palestinian Wedding Rehearsal Dinner. The bride is American and unsure if her Palestinian inlaws-to-be have any preferences for my attire and wants me to use my own judgment.
Does anyone have experience with this? Any suggestions? I am Cabaret, but I have a fully covered dress I can use or the flesh-colored power net.
Thnx!

Re: Palestinian Wedding Rehearsal Dinner
I'd where the fully covered dress to be on the safe side. Some Palestinians are Christians and some are Muslim. Do you know which they are? If Muslim you would have to be covered up. However, even if they are Christian sometimes they might invite the priest, or even some older family members might feel uncomfortable at a display of too much flesh. Also some halls have a strict policy. When I used to do parties at Bint el Bel in Dearborn I knew automatically to cover up as the owner wouldn't let me dance otherwise.

What Norma says is accurate. Still, I'd try to get a bit more info from the bride, at least with regards to religious affiliation and how conservative the crowd might be. Some people really want the bedleh, but in the absence of any other info, it's probably best to err on the side of coverage!

Thank you, Norma. The bride mentioned that the in-laws-to-be would be wearing Henna dresses and the event is ouside at the Bride's mom's back yard. So, are you thinking I should wear the full coverage dress (I'll see if I can get a photo of it, I haven't performed in it yet) or my usual costumes with the powernet?

Don't be shy - ask the bride-to-be! Probably either the full coverage dress or the bedla with midriff net cover would be ok. If the crowd expects bedla, be sure to ask if they also expect the midriff to be covered.

I have to agree with Norma... better to be on the safe side... Then nothing is lost.
