    Zills to Veil

I've seen lots of dancers go from using veil to using zills during a dance but I've never seen anyone go from using zills to veil. I'm working on a song that I would like to go from zills to veil and wanted to make sure that was OK and I wasn't missing something.

No, it's okay. Many dancers enter zilling, then do a veil taxim. So, nothing wrong.

    Have fun!

Amira Jamal, a Boston area teacher, taught us to keep the zills on and handle a veil with zills on at the same time during the veil section. She performed that excellently!!!

A bunch of her students here on bhuz, incl. me when I took Turkish/Greek style, do it :)

That was something that I used to do routinely. It's kind of hard to do a belly-gram any other way (at least for me).

I was taught to do the "bunny ears" veil grip when simultaneously playing zills. Figure out where on the veil you want to hold it, then pinch the fabric around your ring finger. This enables you to freely use your zills fingers and play with the veil at the same time :) Or switch off or whatever...

I was wondering too about switching from skirt dance to zills-- I guess the same technique applies. I'd like to see that done, if anyone has a clip of it.

    Re: Zills to Veil

I'm still learning how to do veil while wearing zills - but I'm doing it a LOT more due to, no doubt, the pernicious influence of that Cory Zamora woman. ..g.: I once saw a performer do DOUBLE veil while playing her Zills...
