WORKSHOPS
Workshops from 8:30- 3:30 p.m. with Aziza Ammar, Norma and Aida Al-Adawi
8:30 a.m. Registration
9 a.m. -Warmups with Amira
10:00 a.m. -Aziza-improv techniques with various Arabic rhythms and melodies
11:45 p.m. Lunch and Bazaar
12:45 p.m. -Norma -American Greek Caberet with chifti-telli and veil
2 p.m. Aida Al-Adawi of San Fransisco -Combination steps, hip work and cymbal techniques

$55 in advance for all workshops or $60 at the door.

8 p.m. Concert begins
9 p.m. Dinner

It sounds like a wonderful time. I am shakin it at the Great Lakes Bellydance convention that weekend though. I wish you the best of luck with your event!

I heard about that convention. Too bad they scheduled it the same weekend. For 17 years we have always had the benefit the 2nd weekend of Nov. Having 2 events the same weekend might affect the workshop attendance but it won't affect the show attendance as most of the audience is outside the belly dance community.

The current economic situation however is another story entirely. People don't have has much to donate to charity but it's for the kids so we hope people will still find it in their hearts to be generous.

Me too - definitely. I am doing a benefit that day too, however, I am in Chicago so there should be no problem of that. But the kids - they definitely deserve it.

I really like doing the charity events. Maybe next year I will have to stop into your event. I have 3 children of my own and many who aren't mine but might as well be. Anything for the kiddos.

It truly is a good deal. Everyone donates their time. That's why we can offer multiple workshops for the price of one. The owner of the hall donates the hall and appetizers so that way we are able to keep the ticket price down.

And you should see what is raffled off! Evening gowns that are easily worth hundreds of dollars! Hip scarfs! Spa visits!

There are so many bellydance events this year that you can actually make a multiple choice decision. Unfortunately, there can be scheduling conflicts and this event should've had sole billing.

99% sure I'll be at the workshop and will for sure be shaking my groove thang in the show! Last year was fun so I am looking forward to doing it again!

Are you in Aida's troupe? From what I understand, almost all acts are group acts this year. Very few soloists. The Princess Daughters are performing to a selection of Oum Khoulsoum pieces. The audience will love that as they are primarily Middle Eastern!

Yes - I am with Aida. This will be my second time at the benefit. Last year there were a lot of solo and duo acts, it will be nice to see more troupes! Looking forward to it!

How was this event?

It went very well. I unfortunately didn't have the chance to attend the workshop, but the show was just beautiful! It was my first year doing this show and I was very impressed by how beautifully it turned out.

Next year I will make a field trip out of it!

It's always the 2nd Saturday of November so you can start planning your field trip! :)
