I cant think of the names of the bollywood type songs you can bd to. I have an Indian client who thought it would be cute to have traditional music but one Indian fusion song, too.
Any suggestions helpful :)

Oh boy, here I go.
"Chaiyya Chaiyya" from Dil Se (kind of a "rock" type tune, but VERY popular and it has a great beat.)
"Mere Dil Ka Tumse Yeh Kehna" from Armaan
"Aa Tayar Hoja" from Ashoka
Those are some of my favorites...:) (I have lots more, but these are the more "belly dance-able" ones.)
Ps..if you go to www.bollywhat.com you can get translations for all of them.
;)
Yasmin!

I'm not really sure what Bollywood music is, but this song sounds fusionish to me, Arabic with ? Indian, or Pakistani? I think Haroon, the singer is from Pakistan.
It's a cute song anway:

Turbo Tabla's latest CD has a great track called IndiaArab. More Banghra than Bollywood, but fun anyway. Blue Lotus Tribe is dancing to it for Tribal Revolution.

The only real Bollywood Sharqi song I know is "Raqqasa Mera Naam" from the Film The Great Gambler. You can get it on iTunes.
There's also a new film called Guru that has a "bellydance" scene in Istanbul (although the actual dancing is not very Raqs Sharqi, more standard modern Bollywood). I don't have the DVD around, but I think the song is called "Mayya".
"Deedar De" from DUS also has a Turkish flavour.
These are the appropriate songs that I can think of right now.
Of course Habibi Dah might also work - it could still be new to the Indians ..l;,

See, over here in our area, Nari Narin is old news and really overdone.
David does the "Puke" face every time he hears it.
I still like it though.
Be careful with your Bollywood to get a meaning to the words and Bhangra too as you dont want to end up dancing to a martyr song like a group in LA did with their Bhangra. Dont just assume because you like the beat that its ok to present or goof to.

06-20-2007 12:40 PM #9Two nice Arabic songs that have a little bit of South Asian in them, but won't make you puke:
Ya Ghali (sung by a woman who won Star Academy in 2002 (?) Old but nice. It will be on any Arabic compilation from 2002. Nice little Indian rhythmic section in the middle)
Marsoul el Hob (traditional Moroccan song, sung this time by Hasna. Has bits of bhangara [bhangara bhits?] in it.)

I found Marsoul Il Hob on iTunes - on a CD called "Petrol Presents - Greatest Songs Ever: Middle East" but I couldn't hear any Indian beats on the short clip. Are they at a special place in the song?
I am interested in Arab-Indian songs myself. I know only very few.
One is El Harba Wine by Khaled - but the lyrics are rather depressing (both in Arabic and Hindi) so I would not use it for a "happy bellydance" number...

06-20-2007 04:04 PM #11Make sure that Marsoul el Hob is the one sung by Hasna. Every voice sings it in his/her life time, much to the delight of Moroccans.
Hasna's version has Nightrider Bhangara bits all over it. Dated, yes, but nice...
