Thread: Ranyas Baladi Taqsim dvd

Amyraks - that is a fabulous performance! It really inspires me to do more with improv too! And I especially love that costume - it's gorgeous!!!

I'm drooling all over my keyboard with everybodys' descriptions of this dvd. I ordered it off her website because of this thread. Bhuzzers rule, and it sounds like the DVD will too, can't wait to see it!

I will be updating my website with my Web Goddess Stacey later this evening, and we will be changing some of the specials then, so get your orders in today if you want the free performance dvds. My lovely and dedicated video-editor/student Amy (dancing in the youtube clip above--bravo Amy!) and I are working on remastering the performance dvds (originally produced in 2006) so they will have slick new menus, and those will be shipped as bonuses with those who ordered 2-3 instructionals, at the same time the Modern Oriental ships.

Dancers: please submit your interest in teleconference topics and times that are good for you, to help me with the scheduling of those. It will be exciting for me to speak to you all! Some of my ideas for the teleconferences: technique execution questions, music and rhythms, working with musicians, Egyptian vs. Western ways of thinking about rhythms and about dance styles, etc. Please let me know the topics of interest to you, especially as you work through the DVDs. Looking forward to it!

I just ordered the baladi dvd, and the modern & classical videos look so good, too. I can't wait to get it! I probably wouldn't have even known about it unless i saw the thread

I've just ordered the beledi dvd--again, thanks to everyone's positive comments and mini-reviews. Bhuz rules (and sometime we drools ..g.: on our keyboards.

Mine came yesterday! Ranya, I am in heaven. Thank you so much for all the effort that went into this production. I am still digesting what I watched last night and, in fact, I dreamed about Aminti Billah all night!

Everything is so well thought out. The menus are organized in such an easy to use progression. And I love the fact that you worked drills around three different baladis and took so much care in talking about the music for each of them.

I particularly loved the demonstration you gave of drawing the music. Listening to baladis I have always sensed that there was a return to the beginning in the taqsim before transitioning to the next section but that little segment really cemented that for me.

Shareen el Safy talks about the "delicious sensations" of the circular internal core movements and your dvd is certainly that--one big, wonder delicious sensation after another.

Started watching mine and had to put it on pause and come here and rave about Ranya. This is the single best DVD I have ever purchased. If you like Shareen el Safy, but wish she had a more outrageous sense of humor, you have just found your teacher! The detail, the context, the sheer quality and quantity of information!!! Guys I have spent thousands on instructional DVD and VHS over 8 years...but this is it . I could spend 8 years here alone!

Ranya, you're wonderful!! This DVD is absolutely amazing and I've told some of friends about it. It's so high quality and packed with information, and just watching it and working through it makes me want to go to New York right now and study with you!

Thanks for such a wonderful production, and I'm excited for the Modern Oriental DVD, your performance ones, and the teleconferences.

I only worked with the first DVD so far and I am already in love. It is such a wealth of information that I sat in front of the TV with a pen and notebook. So much to soak in. You hit a home run with this one, Ranya. I am so impressed. I can't wait to move on to DVD #2. I can see myself going back to these DVDs over and over again.

Yep, I am a baladi gal and am planning on baladi taqsims for everything I do this spring and summer. Maybe forever!!!! Who knows, I might just get lost in the music and wander around for a while in my gallabeyia.

It's so funny -- I used to listen to those big long 10-12 minute baladi progressions and think "how can you ever have enough stuff to dance that long!" Last night I put one on and thought "man, I wish this was longer!"
