Thread: Blanca' Sensual Bellydance and Tamalyn Dallal's Sensual Belly dance DVD

Does anybody have both of these DVD's? I have Blanca's and I absolutely adore it! She is definitely a role model for me. How about Tamalyn's DVD? How do they compare? Any preferences?

I have both, and they're pretty different. Granted I don't think I've watched the Tamalyn Dallal all the way through. But the arms and hands Tamalyn teaches seem very different from Blanca's. Tamalyn also goes over some drills from her earlier Serious Bellydance DVD, and stylistically, she and Blanca seem very different.

Just my two cents.

Bump. I just watched Tamalyn's Emerald Dreams last night and was debating whether to purchase her Sensual Passion DVD. I enjoyed her style very much.

Any other comments? And if you have a copy you are willing to sell, would you let me know? Thank you.

I'm not familiar with either DVD, but just putting in a plug for Tamalyn Dalal - I adore her. Great teacher and she has a very pretty and unique dance style.

Yes, I was very impressed with her on the Emerald Dreams tape. I'm going to check on Youtube for any videos of her.

I like Tamalyn's older vids better - Serious Bellydancing is chock full of content, including zills, though being older, is a less polished product than the newer Sensual Dance. But I love the style of it (older one), the intent, the mood. If you like Emerald Dreams, you will get more of that mood than the new one IMO.
Blanca is very different, her passion seems more ethereal and floaty, Tamalyn's is more earthy. I love her Blanca's Sensual Bellydance dvd; my troupe did a dance inspired by her choeography to Ifrit (Tim Rayborn) which gets rave reviews.

Thanks for the information. I'll see if I can find "Serious Bellydancing" for sale. I performed the Blanca's Ifrit choreography at the RenFaire and at a Valentine Day show too. Love it!

I own both - Blanca's seems WAY more "conceptual" to me. Tamalyn's essentially is a (beautiful!) choreography. She does teach a lot of her belly technique, arm technique etc. "in passando", but to my impression "sensuality" is not so much the concept of the dvd/choreography, but the name of the song used if I remember that correctly (I may be totally off on this one - but "Sensual Passion" or something like that by Mossavo is the song used if I remember correctly - granted, the song is soothing, hence the name I guess, and so is the dance).

If you loved tamalyn's style on her performance dvds I believe you will be very happy with her choreography dvd! And yes, it is SO different from Blanca's lovely conceptual sensuality dvd (one of my all time favorites).

p.s. I think this would belong in the dvd review section though, right! since it is not so much about different traditions/styles..
