Thread: Those wish-I-Hadn't moments!!

Hello,

Here's a fun one...

Time to share those moments when you've seen yourself on video/pics or even thought about it after performing where you have thought "Why on earth did I do that!" We all have seen ourselves in less flattering poses/movements, so its time to let it all out!!!

I took my shimmy-layered-over-an-undulation onstage before it was ready for prime time.

I looked like a shivering kitten with a hairball.

I saw a video of myself taken not too long ago. I felt fine during the performance but watching it was.... underwhelming. The taxim was too long and too intense and I just didn't get to the level of intensity that I needed to. Meh.

The only video I have of myself is one that I am really not very happy with. I had such bad stage fright and every time I see it all I notice is how I was dancing over the music as opposed to in the music because I was so terrified. Still, I posted it on you tube because I don't think clients will know the difference. However, I sure as heck know it wasn't my finest moment!

I'd just like to say that no video of a dancer can convey the emotion and intensity that is felt live, in the presence of that dancer....

(that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it! :-) )

Yes! I was laughing at myself til tears came cause in one competition I did the same pose at the end of each song. So five time in a row I struck the same pose......

I did a performance bare-footed on a marble floor. When I had to do fast turns - my feet were stuck to the floor and so I had to hop in fast little circles just to move. Mortifying! At least I didn't fall over.

Way too much energy + disco ball beladi dress + super curly wig = one overwhelming hot mess. It's the one piece of video that I never fail to cringe thinking about.

The last time I ever did a Turkish drop. I won't teach them to my students now either. *sigh*

I have some awful clips of me trying to perform when I was a baby dancer, so there was lots of "flipper hands" and me self-consciously moving my hair out of my face. You can bet I started looking into headbands after I saw that video.

I also saw a recent photo that caught me in the act of making sure my belt wasn't going to fall off. Hopefully to the GP it looks like I'm doing some sort of sassy pose. But anyhow, it's time to move those hooks!

I have seen video clips of myself doing that.... truck driver blow your horn... motion. You know... arm up in the air, hand in a fist, and bending at the elbow... honk honk... don't know wtf that's about.

I danced at a nursing home for mentally handicap people and I was going to do my cane dance to the HaHa song and I scared half the residents.. I wanted to die =( I felt so bad

No video needed. Floorwork on a carpeted stage platform stage wearing a sequined skirt creates delightful velcro-like combination. Smmmooooooovve!

In my defense, had no idea the stage would be carpeted--fifth year at the venue...wasn't carpeted before.

Oh man, or those dead seagull arms, or even those pictures snapped at the right moments with the "who farted" face..

I have a great one.

I didn't test drive my belt. Oh sure, I tried it on...but I never tested to see if it would withstand shimmying. The entire night, my belt was falling off. The pictures are terrible cause the front of the belt is about 4 lower than it should be. I didn't even stop to think about safety pins.
Gah! Lesson learned. Try on the belt...and then do every move you can possibly think of to see where the belt ends up.

best laugh I've had in a loooooooong time ..l;,..l;,..l;,..l;,..l;,..l;,..l;,

as for my moment, accidental butt cleavage (only a tiny bit, but glaring, IMO), On top of that, bland overall performance due to heat so extreme I was dripping and completely de-energized before I even started dancing and had to dance for 40 minutes, do retakes, etc. All captured for posterity for a sort-of documentary and broadcast several times on TV. Overall bad camera work to boot, and worse editing (I asked them to blur the cleavage scene, and they wouldn't!)

i have a video of myself doing a veil dance....it was TERRIBLE when i watched it, but audience members complimented me after the show

i guess Sonja's excuse is also VERY true:)

the label from my underwear sticking out over the waistband of a costume during performance. I cut all the labels out now.

I'll have to find a photo to post, I must have one million photos of me with one eye shut while dancing! For the life of me, I never think I'm closing one eye and I don't see it on video - I just get lucky I guess! You know the face - One eye open, one eye shut, and your mouth open? What is it with that? I must wink a lot!?

Ack! I do this too, but I've never intentionally winked! I always look like I'm being electrocuted or exorcised of a demon.

I'm notorious for closed eyes in photos (apparently I dance with my eyes shut all the time?) but I KNOW I wink a lot. Just call me Ms. Palin.

If it makes you feel better, I have a photo of Aziza doing this same thing... so you're in excellent company ..g.: Just do it like she did with a cute/saucy grin and attitude and the audience grins with you!

geez..these don't sound that bad at all compared to some of mine...too many over the years. Or maybe this is not the right thread for dance bloopers...they may be a bit different...is there a dance blooper thread. I want to confess on it...

ETA, I think I must dance alot with my eyes closed as well...most of my pictures I have closed eyes...been trying to work on it!

Are you reaching out and grabing air (pinky to palm followed by other fingers while twisting your wrist) really quickly when you do that?
If so that's normally associated with "wraping up the show" e.g. "cathing the final moment" or "catching all of your moves and putting them away".
