    Tulay Karaca

    Hello everyone,

I love the clips of Tulay here. They are old and her costume is quite daring with fringe on one side of the bra and she looks stunning in it.

I love that part here: [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D_bEuJdC-54]YouTube - Tulay Karaca with live drum solo,Turkish Belly Dance[/ame]

Any Tulay fans out there? (paging Anthea (Kawakib) another legendary ziller ..g.:)

I heard Tulay retired and her niece is now in the Turkish dance scene...

Her belt is not typical thickness like we know in Egyptian and even Turkish costumes. I guess it is her signature look and darn she can get a way with anything she wears. LOL (well, almost....)

What I love about her is that she is sexy, but not slutty. Her costumes are daring with alot of leg showing, but I do not see her buttocks like some turkish costumes (older ones). She is amazingly entertaining and has a signature style.

Yes, Tülay retired early 90´s and her niece Zinnur Karaca continued "family tradition" but to my understanding Zinnur is also long gone from Turkish dance scene...

Here is one from clip of her from 1992[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TWAgqcCccKw"]Zinnur[/ame]

I really love Tülay too - Zinnur is not so bad either but not nearly as good as her aunt (who actually does not look to be much older so probably Zinnur´s mother was Tülay´s older sister(?)

    Hi Kahire,

Yeah Zinnur her niece this is the one I meant. Hmmm I wonder why she is not in the dance scene anymore. She is not bad sure and very pretty, but as you said, Tulay is much better. Plus, I am not a fan of those turkish costumes worn by Zinnur in this video where you can see higher than her thigh (hip/buttock area, you know what I mean here). I do not see those types of costumes that much anymore. Just as example, Didem is pretty much wearing bras and belts we are used to seeing. Tulay has something very unique about her.

    Hugs,
    Amani

She is amazing, I love her! I wonder if she was ever teaching. I do not think so. I have not heard at least that she was...

    Re: Tulay Karaca

Here is another clip of Tulay dancing to Egyptian music. She looks more curvy in the video than the previous clips, but in both clips she looks fabulous. I would kill to have a body like her.

As I said I am not a fan of Turkish costumes which show alot of hip (the one she is wearing here), but I love her in any case. I take the words back from the previous post that I did not see her in the older version Turkish costumes. I guess she did wear them too, but then during this time those were typically OK.

Call me crazy, but for some reason I can "forgive" Tulay wearing those even I do not like them that much, but Dina's ultra miniskirts and some of her costumes bother me more (not to say that Dina is not a fabulous dancer and I am not comparing here because comparing Tulay and Dina is like comparing apples and oranges).

My long time teacher in Dallas took a couple of classes with Tulay many, many years ago. She said Tulay was very sweet to her, but really tough on everyone else, especially cab drivers!

My teacher also bought a costume from her. She never wore it and let me try it on. It was so tiny! Bright yellow crochet bikini (top and bottom) with a very lacy crochet skirt that hid absolutely nothing. There was no way I would have worn it and I only weighed 100 pounds back then. Not that is was too small size-wise, but it was tiny!

Very interesting... I got you when you say tiny ..g.: I guess back then Turkey had less sensorship? Am I right? Well, the costumes that were popular back then as you can see worn by Tulay or Zinnur on those videos. Then when you look at Didem's videos she wears costumes the ones we are more used to today and probably would have more possibility to wear, as opposed to the ones in Turkey back then.

Oooh, look at the veil wrap in that first clip, it should be on the Turkish veilwork thread! I used to think the veilwrap was totally amcab, but now I'm seeing lots of this older Turkish footage..

We should have a thread sometime exploring the differences/similarities between Tulay, Nesrin, Princess Banu and 'American Cabaret' style. More and more I'm convinced they're the same thing, except for maybe swords and snakes?

I love how she has her "Tulay" style as well and how she pushes the envelope in her costuming (I am talking the very first clip I posted with the veil wrap). She looks fabulous in that costume.

that first clip of Tulay where she does that spin with the kick as she goes around, made me laugh, my Mom always used that step back in the day, maybe she still does!!
Those Turkish girls have great bodies!! Wow!

Dilek, I have a question you can answer; How does Tulay Karaca pronounce her name, I've heard several versions from Too-Lay, and Tuuh--ly ..c::, I've also noticed many dancers confuse her last name with Tahia Carioca's!!

I am obvioulsy not Dilek, but Tuuh-ly is closer to correct pronounciation. Actually her name is Tülay (u with dots on top if that does not appear correctly, which is basically letter "Y" similarly as in German)

Her last name is pronounced something like "kah-rah-cha" (I am not really familar with english "translitteration" so this can be bit weird version as for Finns Turkish names are easy to pronounce and vice versa as both languages are phonetic)

Yes I dont really know how I would write in English pronounciation but you are correct. Tuh-ly is more like her name with "u" has dots you need to put your lips together more like you are sipping with straw.
Last name: Kah-rah-cha but "cha" gives more a sound I think "c" has a hook underneath, it should be rather deeper.
