Thread: History/origin of veils in belly dance

I love doing double veil routines, and this has been fascinating reading about how it came about thanks guys!

Back in the early 1980's, I took a different sort of "double veil" workshop from Leea in Walnut Creek, California. (She's the organizer of the Belly Dancer of the Year competition.) In this workshop, she advocated doing veil pieces TWICE in the course of a typical 5-part or 7-part performance. The way she taught it (if I remember correctly), you could use the same veil for both parts - instead of discarding it at the end of the rhumba/bolero song, you could put it back on (perhaps wrapping it at the neck and tucking into the belt). Then, you'd dance with it later again in the chiftetelli. She taught different ideas for dancing with it with each type of music so that it wouldn't look too same-same from one segment to the other.
