Not to suggest that this has anything to do with authenticity, but in the last BDSS show the girls did a really cute move where they gathered the hair behind their heads like a ponytail and then flicked the ends over their heads in time to the beat (for just about two beats)while doing a side step. It was super cute. Sexy too, but primarily cute. I incorporated the move into one of my choreos, but that means I have to be without zills for that song and the rest of my show. My zills ALWAYS get stuck in my hair if I bring one into the vicinity of the other.

..g.: Oh, I like that! *steals*

Actually there may some authenticity to that, I'm certain I've seen something similar on a folkloric clip, but not Egyptian. Shickhatt, I think!! Maybe one of the clips Artemis Mourat showed us at her lecture.

Sometimes I think a little utilitarian hair touching improves the performance, particularly if it involves uncoupling your hairdo from your mascara!
Yes. Yes! A thousand times yes! It's so hard for me to enjoy watching someone dance when half her hair is caught in her lip gloss! I understand that she has a choreography but the longer it goes, the worse it is. It's painful, quite honestly. Take a second to deliberately brush the hair away from your face, please.

I also appreciate when a dancer with long hair turns away from the audience to show her back, typically while doing some interesting hip articulations, and she gathers her hair up so that we can see what she's doing. It shows me she is fully aware of all aspects of her performance, including sight lines and framing.
