Why don't you look for a hip hop class? That would really prepare you to know both styles and do a really tight fusion, rather than just getting a glance at it from a workshop. I would think a workshop would be more valuable in helping you combine them, rather than actually teaching you hip hop.

Good advice. We've always said, good fusion comes from people who know two forms really, really well and THEN fuse them. If you study bellydance and study hip hop until you can do both well, then you'll be able to produce some exciting fusion, I'm sure!

Hip-Hop -- both the music and the dance style -- comes from a specific set of traditions, just as raqs sharqi does (and there's more than one point of similarity they have in terms of evolution...) You really need more than a one-off workshop to grasp the styles involved, and the musical traditions you'll need to process as well.

I have already had about 6 years of hip hop lessons. Its more about fusing them together. My original background was hip hop and dancehall Jamaican dancing. I did this from ages 11-17. I would like to do this in a class but I can only afford the belly dance lessons and plus I know from experience that most hip hop classes are for much younger people (yes even younger than 25). I just wanted more a few tips on what to fuse together but I think with the experience I already have I will just need to get creative and try stuff out. Spent all day doing this already :)

. Get the videos!You could end up teaching the workshop yourself!( no no get to do the hip hop first!) I know no one in the UK . Mind you I can see someone like Shafeek or Tara doing that

Then you're ahead of the game! If you're well versed in the form, then I'm sure a workshop would be really helpful. Same goes for the videos.

But yeah, I guess a big part of fusion would be experimentation: finding differences and similarities; compliments and incongruities; and figuring out what fits where.

As an aside, Bhangra and hip hop go really well together.

Tribal_Butterfly - you are on your way! Since you already have some Hip Hop and with the additional awesomness of Dancehall, I would say you've got good grounds to start. Find music that has both of these elements - there is a lot - and just drill drill drill. I've found lots of BD/Reggaeton out there too. Good Luck and have a great time fusing!

Thanks for the encouragement ladies :) I was putting stuff together all day yesterday and things looked great. I still love my tribal though too :) I am going to buy some hip hop cheap cds on sale in the shops and get fusing tonight again :) It comes naturally to fuse the two and Im excited :) I need tons more experience in Bellydance tho so I have more moves. Got an egyptian workshop on Sunday :)
