Re: Nubian dance--who teaches it?
I first learned Nubian from Momo Kadous, it was a very cute choreography. Then from Faruk Mostafa (who I actually don't recommend). Next from Sahra. Then learned some of the differences between Nubian and Khaleegy from Tito.
For those of you who mention Ousama Emam I missed his class last November because I was sooooooo sick. I was so upset because I kept hearing how much fun it was, he was teaching Shaaby at the time. So I would so go take from him no matter what he is teaching, I just hear good things about him all the time.
But Nubian is a fun and easy dance, it would be nice to see more of it.

Khadejah and Mustapha El Oueslati, www.ahlamdancetheatre, are masters and often teach workshops in Nubian dance.

Re: Nubian dance--who teaches it?
Prof. Dr. Hassan Khalil of Cairo teaches Nubian, it is **so** much fun! We learned a delightful choreo to the song "Shamandura" by Mohammed Mounir during our teacher training module at ISOC last November. Prof. Khalil's explanations of various Nubian gestures, their meanings, etc., really made his choreography come alive for us.
For more information on Prof. Khalil, ISOC, and related dancer/teacher training programs, workshops, etc., please visit

Re: Nubian dance--who teaches it?
Just want to pipe up here for both Atef Farag and Sahra Saeeda. Atef's Nubian was delightful. Someone told me that it was very much in the tradition of Reda-style stage Nubian, just so we keep everything straight.
Sahra's JtE course covers a lot of ground in Nubian dance, costuming, and culture. I can't recommend this course enough; if you have the chance to take it, don't hesitate. It's been one of the best things I've ever done for myself as a dancer and artist. I'm going with her group this summer to Egypt, and will be keeping a journal/sketchbook to the best of my abilities, so will try to have good things to share about Nubia (and everywhere else) when I return.
Where can I find more Nubian pop music? I love it! It's so happy and sunny. I don't even know who the names to look for are. I'm not talking about heavy hitters like Hamza El Din, I mean the folky pop stuff. Guess I'll try to find some in Egypt.

Re: Nubian dance--who teaches it?
Habeeba hosted Sahra last year and I was lucky enough to get to those workshops. I am saving up to do the next Journey through Egypt event that comes anywhere near Ohio. Just the teaser workshop I was in was enough to make me want to follow that woman all around the world. You would love a workshop with her Sonja. Ask Drew, I was in seventh heaven for months:) Lots of history and all the different dance zones and movements and costumes....sigh...it was wonderful.

Leela, you know about Mohamed Mounir, right? Wonderful music.
I like Nubian music a lot, too, I'll look through some comps I have later for artists.
Also, I totally second Sahra Saeeda and her "Journey" workshops! I'm going to try to get down to Southern California to do 2 this summer.
