Thread: Help me pick a piece for the Tamalyn Dalal show

I am going to be performing at the Tamalyn Dalal Gala Show and I am considering two solos.

First is Raks al Assaya. I'm a newbie at this, but I am absolutely in love with it. I would probably get a private lesson or two if I were to do this one.

The other is the "Samia" song from Diana Tarktan's DVD. I know we shouldn't do DVD choreos at big shows, but this is not a very well known DVD and I heart the choreo/song.

I know you guys can't see me doing either one so you can't judge which one I am better at, but which would you prefer??? Any thoughts?

I vote assaya between those two choices too. Though to be honest, it would be really cool to use music from one of Tamalyn's CD's too.

I second that wholeheartedly!

I vote assaya, too. If you choose to do the Diana Tarkhan song, I'd change at least half of the choreo to make it your own and list it as "inspired by". Personally, I muuuuch prefer to see a dancer do her own work! Especially at larger shows.

I am performing in a Tamalyn show in New Hampshire in a few weeks. I couldn't decide if I should dance to a song on one of her cds or something different. I didn't want to be a total belly dance dork....
but I think I will dance to something of hers anyway. Thanks Maliaraqs!

You're welcome! She had a CD-release party up here in March, and each of us that performed chose a different song from her latest CD. It was so much fun! Very different music from what I normally choose, so the challenge was exciting ..g.:
