Thread: Any styles that you just cant do????

I adore with my heart tribal fusion but I cant do the creepy snake like trance movements. I wish I could be do sharp and controled but its not happening! Will stick to ATS

not bellydance, but Flamenco. I do not have the attitude. I am just too damn happy when I dance. I smile too much. So scowly stompy flamenco does not work for me. My sister, she is the queen of Flamenco. She has the attitude. She makes me look like Minnie Mouse.

I can't do tribal(ATS) or be a member of a dance troupe. Its just not happening. Not my thing, playing well with others I think I'll always be a solo dancer.

You might be able to, but it may take a lot of practice.

I don't think I can pull off that cute, humor thing (think when Aziza does something like pretend to pull up on something with a string) and have it be credible. I love it to pieces, though.

i can't (or maybe it's won't) do any tribal styles. and i dislike jazz and modern dance as well. it's just not for me. also anything involving funny faces makes me feel like a total idiot. lol other ppl can pull these things off, but def not me.

This is because dancers like Rachel Brice do millions upon millions of repetitions of movement drills all day every day, and have been doing so for years. It's not something you can achieve overnight.

I don't know about "styles". There are certain movements I can't do - that so-called elevator drop to the heels thing that Dina and some fusion dancers do is not physically possible for me. I can get down more slowly and get up again fairly gracefully if I'm wearing heels.

I've discovered recently I can actually drop from a backbend after a fashion but Turkish drops, etc are not for me.

"Drunken Sailor" type movements within Egyptian Oriental, I don't really want to be able to do them either :-)

Hee hee I still love Yasmina doing that ..g.: Though Yasmina would look graceful digging the garden.

Oh, I want to nail the drunken stagger walk entirely so I can just biff one or two in to show I know them and then move on. It should be easy to stagger about like that. god knows I know how to get drunk. But how come when I do it looks different, hmm?

I'm still sticking up for the Drunken Walk though. Zumarrad, I can't nail it either...I'm going to have a go sober and see if that might help. Will report on progress.

I dont think I would be very good at Crumping :) Its proably great fun - I just dont think I'd be good at it.

I'm Egyptian focused, but I don't like Melaya, it looks cheesy to me. I don't like sugary folklore stuff like Falahi with the jugs, it's mise en scene anyway. I love saidi very much.

I can do the drunkern sailor very well....after a bottle of vino :)

No floorwork for me, I have sloppy joints and arthritis. I thought if I got strong enough that it would override the other issues, but discovered its still definitely a "no" for me.

(Actually, at this moment I am being careful with everything, lol, might have a torn cartilage in my left knee.)

Old-school Turkish for me. It was my first love, and I still love the music SO SO SO SO much, but I just don't have the vibe that makes it look good.

I took a Turkish karsilama workshop once and apparently I can spin only so many times before I give up and go look at the costume booth. ..g.:

Goth. I hates it. Unless it's light-hearted. Watching people being deliberately depressed is annoying, NOT deep.

I royally suck at Turkish Rom, but these types of things don't deter me. I'm not accepting defeat.

anything that requires "acting". be it the cutesy-ness, or the "i have attitude" of flamenco and such... i can play around a bit with myself, but i feel too ridiculous to keep it up, especially if anyone's watching Lol

Lebanese style. I tried, bought heels, bought a DVD, I picked up on some of the combos that I liked, but I didn't feel as connected to it as I do dancing Egyptian or Goth style.

Also can't do Suhaila style, nothing against it or anything, just not my thing.

I hate to admit that I am royally "challenged" when it comes to cane. This is probably a matter of not doing it often enough, but I just don't look as good as I think I'm supposed to

Yeah I can't to Rom either. Just don't get it!

I tried hip hop once many years ago. I looked like some kind of freakish little sprite. It wasn't a good look. Maybe it'd be a little better now (I'm not so ridiculously skinny and I'm more in touch with a lower center of gravity), but then again, I'm in my 30s now, so maybe I should just decide that that ship has sailed. ;-)

Reda-style is absolutely unobtainable for me. I just cannot get my footwork challenged body and mind to give any justice to this academically graceful style. Even workshops of this style are almost total waste on me as I cannot concentrate on anything else but my feet.

I struggle also with other footwork-emphasized modern Egyptian stylizations but still find especially Raqia bit easier to approach and that I can also make her style look at least tolerable as long as style leans on shaabi or baladi but my heart bleeds as I simply cannot look good with most classics.

(I also look ridiculous with most choreographies by local teachers as they are designed for tiny Asians and not Xena warrior princess)

Tap! I thought I was going to fall on my face when I tried it one summer. Along with Hip Hop, too bouncy for me...

As for this type of dance, Oriental is my comfort zone. I love watching any style of it though.

I'm with you on this one, and even when I could manage it physically, I was never able to pull it off on stage on an emotional level. Admire it, just can't do it!

khaleegi....hate the music, hate the hair, hate the hand gestures. congrats to anyone who can do it well, but it all bores me to tears when i do it and i feel like my head is about to fall off from all the hair tossing. besides that, i feel like a bobble head doll.
unfortunately, it is just as popular around here as saiidi and shaabi, but it is absolutely insufferable....mostly because my hair is three and a half feet long....try swinging that puppy around to the beat and not be left looking like cousin it....
