Artemis Mourat's "sidewinder" movement
Any youtube clips of someone doing a reasonable rendition of this movement?
I have learned it from her several times; I just need some visual refreshment.

Hm, all I can contribute is a verbal description: forward vertical figure 8, layered over step to side - step together behind, steps happen when natural weight shift would occur, upper body does not stay strictly facing forward, it can follow the hips.
It's a cool move!

My friend Kryss does it at least twice in this video: [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BRwdergi_KU]YouTube - Kryss - Sisters of Salome - New Orleans - Chiquita 2005[/ame]

You're both right! From the week before and another workshop Artemis taught in Atlanta, the thrust of the movement is a vertical figure 8, but the slight twist of stepping behind makes it a little horizontal too. It looks more like one of those hybrid figure 8s that she called crunchy granola (?) a little bit of both. That Artemis, what an inspiration. ..l;,

Artemis teaches it on her Turkish instructional DVD too- bought one so I'd remember at least a few things from her workshop!

That's actually a very common step and know around here as a walking side to side with one hip. It's a great versatile step as you can make it long and gooey or tighten it up and add a shimmy to it.
