What kind of Bedouin? One of my teachers has an old video of Levantine Bedouin dances that Bobby Farrah put together. I don't know if it's still on the market, though.

"Bedouin" covers a huge range of styles depending on which Bedouin. As a broad generalization of Egyptian Bedouin styles - characteristic moves include a forward hip twist and butt bounce and wiggle. The only real torso movement is chest throb - bouncing up and down. There is no torso undulation in any Bedouin style dancing - such as used in US camels.

    Re: Bedouin dance?

As Kashmir noted, bedouin dances are not all the same, but here are a few clips.

This is Kazafy's folkoric bedouin dance (from Siwa)

And a folkoric hagalla dance in Marsa Matrua (the man in this clip is doing the 'bedouin syle' I learned)

Those would both be western desert examples; from what I understand eastern desert bedouin will tend to have more khaleegy/Gulf feeling, the footwork may be more similar to this:

    Re: Bedouin dance?

Okay, thanks. I'm hoping to put together a Nubian dance for a local show coming up, and someone told me their troupe would be doing a Bedouin dance. I wondered if they were at all similar. Last night after looking around YouTube it looks like most of the Bedouin I could find looked almost more similar to Tunisian, and also I gathered that the Bedouin people were light skinned?

    Re: Bedouin dance?

In broad terms, I'd say Western desert Bedouin dances will tend to look more similar to Tunisian but the dances of the Bedouin peoples of the Eastern desert could very well look similar to Nubian (both of which can have that Gulf feel and similar music).

As far as I know, Bedouin people are generally not light-skinned but I missed out on my opportunity to attend a Bedouin wedding and cannot definitively say!
