Thread: Baladi group on Facebook

Family and work stuff has kept me off Bhuz for a while. Thank goodness for FB where a one liner can get you caught up without burning disucssions!

Anyway an outgrowth of comments from some Bhuzzers who are friends on FB about how we wished we lived closer together so we could do dvds together spawned a group to work on Ranya Renee's Baladi DVD together.

If you are on Facebook and are a baladi fan, check it out. Open to anyone who wants to participate. We just started and are discussing the first part of disk one on the baladi music.

If not, it's called the Ranya Renee Baladi Study Group.

It's not looking like I'll have time to participate much until after my student show (one week away!) but I hope to go great guns as soon as I can!

Many Bhuz Baladi Babes are already members. And Ranya is also a member so I hope she will chime in. Join. Don't be shy.

Also, I'm the one who started the group but I'm not any kind of leader -- we're all sort of figuring out how to use a Facebook group in this way. The goal is to motivate ourselves/each other to actually WORK with the DVD instead of letting it gather dust.

So please, please please, take ownership in the group. Start discussion threads. Post things on the wall. Whatever you think will be helpful!

If this goes well, we may try it with another video in the future. If not, we may have to try something else.

Oh, I'll so be there! I have the DVDs, started watching them several times, always stopped somewhere halfway through the first one. Great to have a good reason to pop them in again.

Okay, you guys need to start using those dvds and posting at the group's site. Ranya is on there. There are plenty of members. Someone must be doing something.

You can purchase the dvd at my site, Bellydance New York City - Ranya Renee & Company - Belly Dance Classes and Peformances and you will get a free teleconference with me as a bonus ,r:;(and free performance dvd if you are ordering a package)--more dates will be announced soon for those, and you can also get access later to the recordings in case you are not able to do the live call-in.

Separately from that, I'll be presenting a special Baladi teleconference with the Cairo-native accordionist Nabawy from the Baladi dvd, this Wed. Aug. 12, 10pm Eastern time. Details and registration for that are also on my shop page. You don't have to have the DVD to participate in that one, but it helps!

I am so glad that I found this thread! I just joined the FB group. I bought the DVD a few months ago, and have named it my No. 1 recommended DVD on my website. I have never learned so much from a DVD! In fact, not even from a live teacher. This is a must-have.

Hi folks!

Not sure if you have already heard, but I'll be starting up Baladi Coaching sessions, an online format of my New York City in-person coaching "Performance Prep" series, geared towards baladi work. The first free session will be tonight, Monday Nov. 14, 8-10pm Eastern Standard Time (that's 20:00-22:00 :-). Send an email to me at ranya@ranya.net in order to get the online instructions to call in. For tonight's call, you'll need access to the internet to load up a few YouTube videos (preferably in advance of the call, so it won't slow down your connection), and a Skype account (which you can get for free at Skype.com), and a computer with a microphone and headset is useful, though you can probably still participate by chat even if you don't have those.

And if you miss this session and want to be included in future announcements about this sort of series, join the Ranya Renee Baladi Video Study Group on Facebook, or contact me by email if you are (shock!) not on Facebook.
