Sahra Kent teaches hagallah in her Journey Through Egypt 1 !!!!

I highly recommend her as an instructor!

Not sure about instructional DVDs that feature hagallah. Hopefully somebody else will chime in!

Denise Enan learnt it by watching real hagalla. And she is a fantastic teacher.

Reda's latest dvd (Men Gher Leh) also has a 3 minute version of his famous hagalla choreography - no instruction, but if you are familiar with Reda technique, you can pick it up.

    Re: al hagalla

Faten has a DVD with Hagallah on it, but I don't remember which one. It's a choreo, though, I'd love to find one with more explanation.

MOST of the (very few) Hagalla that I've seen have been Reda-based. I think it's VERY important to read this article on Farida Fahmy's website before studying Reda-based Hagalla in order to understand how it differs from the real thing.

Seconding Lauren's recommendation of that article! The Reda and Kawmeyya versions usually performed are very lively and a lot of fun to watch and do. It's good to keep in mind that some of the information that gets passed down with them, even by Egyptians themselves, is based less on historical/cultural accuracy and more on what makes good theater.

    Thirding Lauren's recommendation.

Danielle LeBlanc teaches it here in Vancouver, but she doesn't have a DVD.

Yes, I teach Hagalla, I studied it from Morocco, Magdy el Leisy and Mahmoud Reda, so I combine their styles. Morocco does more traditional, Reda has more theatrical to his, I LOVE Hagalla. Too bad there are no video's left of the true Hagalla ..cr.:..cr.:

Have you seen Magda Saleh's video in the Performing Arts Library at Lincoln Center, NYC? We were lucky enough in one of Bobby Farrah's workshops to have a special showing, with Dr. Saleh narrating. I've been back to the library to watch it a couple of times since then.

    Re: al hagalla

Just came back from Oasis Dance Camp with Sahra Saeeda teaching. One of our morning technique classes was on Reda steps including Hagallah. Sahra taught us both the men and women's parts and we formed two mens' lines with women dancing down the center. I have also taken a Hagallah workshop from Amir Thaleb.
