Thread: Any videos of folkloric jar dance?

Do you know of anybody who has a video of a jar dance online?
Maybe I am searching for the wrong word, nothing came up on YouTube (well, nothing Middle Eastern anyway).

It's a folkloric dance about women in the village going to get water etc.

It did one of these about 18 years ago when I was in a troupe... Don't need much, just a few movements for inspiration to incorporate into another dance.

Pot dance is probably a better phrase to use. I did a quick search but without success. I'm sure there must be some fellahi water pot dances out there online, but I can't find them.

If you have the Reda troupe Egyptian Folklore video/dvd (the one by the Pyramids) the first piece they do on there has lots of water pot stuff.

There are quite a few clips under jug dance.

The music and costuming looks good for it but the dancers I saw in Tunisia moved a lot lot faster and theycertainly didn't show all that leg!

There's a Tunisian pot dance. Reda Troupe also did some. In addition to searching for "pot", you might try "balas" (Arabic word for "pot") and "fellahin".

Dunno if this is useful to you but a version of the music the Reda troup use for the Fellahin Water pot dance is on one of Sahra Saidas CDs Layali Zamen (my spelling might be a bit wrong I couldn't find the CD to check)
Its also got the translation in the CD notes.

Hadia has a Tunisian instructional video which includes a section on a traditional jar dance.

Okay, here are the ones I uploaded. I'm not quite sure of my description so please feel free to correct and inform me. Also, I hope someone can ID the dancers for me. Both clips are from an old VHS tape called "Stars of Egypt". Both of these dancers were featured a lot but I don't know their names.

are you looking for the lebanese water jug ? that is called a breeq or a bree'a. I think ive seen a few debke dances with this as a prop.

Addition all the above I really like Suhaila Salimpour Ensemble Video has one where Sabriye and other member of the troupe does in see thru black Assuits...like that one as well. The music is from Bal Anat CD.
