Help, what video/ DVD is Fifi's Shisha performance on? I would like to buy a DVD that has Fifi's famous shisha performance on it. Thanks so much!

Not so much "sexy" as shocking I believe. A bit like my mother watching the Osbournes to complain and giggle about the "language".

The mi‘allima is in many ways an outsider - a woman of power and influence within her society. On top of that she smokes! Not done at all. I also understand that much of the act is about pushing the audience's hypocrisy in their faces.

Does anyone know what the music is on part 2 of Fifi's shisha dance and what album this may be on? I want the music! Badly!

I'm curious about the beginning when she walks over the burning incense. Can anyone tell me what the significance is if any? Thanks.

I believe she's referencing traditional folk "magic" here. Walking through the smoke is kind of like a blessing/good luck thing. This came up on another thread somewhere and one of our Egyptian board members shared some insight on this practice. I'll see if I can dig up the thread...

I had it on an old bootlegged video copy. I remember she came out in a yellow and silver costume first then had several costume changes ending with the shisha dance. That video also had a very young Dina wearing a purple and yellow costume and short hair dancing to "Dina" on one of the Wash ya Wash CDS.

This is from a play (and the play is on dvd) called "Hazzemni Ya" (Tie Me Up!). You can get it at Maqam.com. no subtitles, but what dancing there is is terrific (and all on youtube, I think) and the play is hilarious even without English subtitles!
