    Dollar bill "necklaces"

An old gentlemen friend of mine (who passed away recently) - and others I've seen - have made 'necklaces' of dollar bills and draped them around the neck of the dancers, instead of stuffing the money into the costume or throwing the money to make a 'shower'.

How is that done? Taping or stapling the bills?

Also, how many bills is enough to make a decent size 'necklace'?

The ones I've received have been stapled, and I believe around 13 bills long.

I think it's an origami-type of thing. Like this (only longer)?

i've received them done with staples and clear tape. clear tape is much better b/c it doesn't scratch and stick to the costume. the amount of $ varies.

I've heard/seen that its a tradition to do something like this at greek weddings (when my sister got married they used pins and tape and made the money into "miss america"style sashes to drape on her). never heard of it being related to arabic culture but perhaps it is too..?

I definitely wouldn't mind getting that type of tip for shows! hehe

I got a hundred dollar necklace once. It was really long and this particular man used tape. I have gotten staple ones before and they were scratchy but easier to make I guess.

They were pinned with straight pins. They were done in 500 franc notes or 50 pound notes. I remember many nights for Sabah in Paris, she had 4 or 5 necklaces worth about $1000 / each. The patrons were very generous to all of us.
