    new appreciation for ATS

so i live in central california, and i'd never seen FCBD style ATS live... but last friday night, i saw a troupe dance live. its was amazing! the sheer joy pouring out of these women was just... i don't know how to say it. after having had a horrible february, it actually made me tear up a little. i have always liked ATS, but i don't think i understood it until now. that was the most beautiful and powerful performance i've seen in a while.

it made me feel like this -->

If you can get yourself up to San Francisco, you can be at the main headquarters. Us eastern folks have to settle for seeing Carolena maybe once a year.

makeda, i hope they were happy/sad tears!

yeah, its really hard for me to put into words what it felt like as an audience member. the feelings and emotions must be so much more powerful for the dancers.

Yes, I see that you live in Salinas. Was there once about 15 years ago. I wanted to see if there was any museums or historical sites for John Steinbeck. Not enough time, though. But, you are so lucky to be within driving distance of San Francisco. FCBD is always having shows in the city, plus lots of opportunities to study. I envy you. Plus, you folks in California get way better produce than we get back here in New England.

Didi's the director of 'Raks Havohakim', and a close associate of The Mighty Siwa. She's a doll, her class is a lot of fun and full of good energy. She's teaching at the 'Serpent's Kiss' near the clock tower. You can see a picture of Didi on my teacher's page near the bottom...

I know what you mean! I just got back from Tribalcon & there were several wonderful ATS groups. At one point, the music was lost for one group so the dancers started clapping. Then the crowd started clapping. Then some drummers ran up & they all danced to that impromptu rhythm! It was really amazing!

Yay! That was us! It was disconcerting at first, but that is the beuty of ATS - it's a set of moves you learn, then you can throw them together any way you like at any time. ATS saved the day!
