    Hey gang! Thank you so much for all the responses! (I actually lost the thread -- I thought I'd put it on the music forum) DOH!

    I'm not sure what I originally meant by the question, but I'm pleased to see so many comments!! If I can actually figure out what I was trying to ask, I'll comment again, but you took the question and ran with it, so I'm not sure if it needs any clarification :) Thanks!!!

    OH, you're so right! I didn't even *think* about the Turkish line dances. I've always thought of them as Debke-like, rather than baladi-like. But they certainly qualify in terms of 'dancing like the folk.'

    Hm, I am not sure whether line dances are the Turkish equivalent to beledi (meaning for this particular point, dancing done by the hometown crowd). From what I have learned, the Turks have very region-specific folk dances that are danced to the appropriate music from that region.
