Do these two titles represent two different songs that sound very similar?
Or are they two different names for the same song, referring to versions that have different lyrics and are associated with different singers and/or different eras?

The two songs are very different. The lyrics for one are different. The only similarity is that both are a beledi progression.

Apparently it's not just me. If they're two historically separate songs, they're similar enough that even some musicians use the titles interchangeably or confuse them. That's one reason I've wondered. I've also asked a couple of native informants -- the answer was a shrug and "same," but I wasn't sure if that meant literally "they're the same song" or just "those two songs are similar enough in style that I think of them as basically the same." Know what I mean?

I'm not sure how much it matters in practical terms, but I like to get my facts straight. :)

Ahmed Adawiya is considered to be the "godfather" of Shaabi. Compare his Bint El Sultan! Very similar don't you think?

This songs were very popular in the early 1980's. which is when I started dancing and I've always considered them to be separate songs. Ya Baladi Ya Wad and Bint El Sultan have more have that earthy shaabi feel.

On the other hand, I"ve always considered Habibi ya eini to be soft and sweet.

They are two different songs. If you listen to a lot of shaabi/beledi you often here the same tunes and the same musical phrasing being used for lots of songs- the words are different.

You know that singer came to a bad end. I heard his thang was cut off because he fooled around with too many women. He later died of a drug overdose. That's what I heard anyway.

Apparently Adeweya has always denied this but he was never the same after THE incident. Hes still with us but when I saw him a couple of years ago he was in a bad shape. He could still remember the words to Bint el Sultan though. he was in the audience at the Semi Ramis and Essam who was the singer got him up to sing.

I had not seen this video before. I swear, it's the first time I've seen her "get down". I've always loved Suheir Zaki, this is about the best I've seen her. It's true, a good a dancer is like an expensive wine, you only get better with age!

I can't direct you to any videos, but there's a related song on Amera's album Wahyatak Habibi. It's called "Shisha Song" and apparently was written for Fifi Abdo, and based on Habibi ya Aini and Baladi ya Wad. I dance to it all the time - I've heard it more times than is healthy.

Love both songs and yes they are different! Maya Yazbek had the origional and best(imho) version of habibi ya eini.

Ahmad adeweya is not dead but he isnt well. He had a stroke and hasnt been the same. I saw him on some Arabic program recently.

He grew up poor and was teased by the industry and was thought to be unsofisticated and uneducated.

He represented the majority of Egyptian people at the time, and many could relate to him, he was loved and apreciated by the people. He is like the leader or king of Baladi and Shaabi music.

According to my local Arabic music store, about a year ago when I asked, the Nanc Ajram version wasn't recorded, it was only in concert.

You can rip audio from youtube videos if you have the right software. I use Any Video Professional Converter. I wish I had more, time, I'd have a field day ripping audio. But alas it is time consuming to do. So far, I've only done one song as a practice.
