I want to see in your face that it's deep in your hips where your focus is when dancing to that song - not in the clouds
Engage your pelvic floor + lower abs more, feel the weight of your hips really dragging you down to the ground, it's the mighty center of gravity in this earthy song.

think of Dina...she sometimes looks like she's drowning, like her heavy hips pull her underwater and she waves goodbye to the world with her arms.....l;,

I'm not the expert really, but this song is full of underlying passion, and all who've interpreted well (have a look at Ranya Renée's clip) they have amazingly expressive hips and expressive hips come from what I described above.

keep up the practise, you're doing well!

    Nouria,

I wanted to acknowledge that your statement of in the hips and not the face got something to "click" into place for me. I'm also working with some beladi pieces and I wasn't quite getting the feel that I wanted. Really sunk down into the hips (I tend to be a floaty airy dancer) and BAM!! Thank You!..g.:

ababalond - thank you for sharing your progress :D

Thank you very much. I owe this to my teacher Yaminah. Like I saw this before, too, but through her I understood it.

One of the most effective excercises for me is still the big hip-circle, on flat feet. When pulling back, I have to use all my strength with pelvic floor and lower abs to pull it as much back and in as I can, which makes the back long and also strengthens the place beneath the shoulderblades. On the balls of feet it's also great.

You are showing great progress. Congratulations.

Arms are better. Good job. But be careful when you are doing arm paths that the arms and hands don't look like, "Oh, look at my beautiful body." Which I am sure was not your intention, but that is how it appears during some of the arm work in the beginning.

I agree with Noura about becoming more earthy with the hip movements. Baladi is really supposed to be heavy hipped. By the same token - and keep in mind that I am a former bun head - just because baladi is more relaxed, doesn't mean that Upper Egypt can be neglected. In other words, keep an eye on you shoulders and chest. You started out strong, then got a little sloppy, allowing the shoulders to roll forward and your chest to sink in a little.

The last thing: Please don't buy Chinese made costuming pieces. They don't last, they aren't that much cheaper than Egyptian, and by buying Egyptian (or Turkish, etc.) you help support the cradle of this art.

I think a great challenge for you would be to try this to live music, if available. Not that you are doing this necessarily, but the live music tends to keep you ("you"-in general) out of your head and more in your body, in the moment.

Whatever technique and dance knowledge you have in your muscle memory will come out more naturally and free-flowing, without conscious thought and bring you to a deeper, more physical space.

Very nice. You're really getting that nice gooeyness and your opening taxim was languid and nice.

I love watching your progress, I can really see how you integrate the feedback from previous posts each time.

I liked this much more than the Lady Gaga piece. It may be personal preference but I feel like you show through much more here then in that one! Thank you for sharing, it takes guts! (so says one that has not posted a clip yet!)

cheers me dear! I'm trying, after some 1-2-1 with a local hilal trained teacher, i'm starting taking with a master teacher who dances professionally, who's from Egypt. so I'm really looking foward to that!
