Thread: Ouled Nail Video Clips

I used to have an IAMED video with an Ouled Nail performance on it, I think it was Belly Dance Live! and the performance was by Habib, but I can't find that one on YouTube.

Are there any other great clips out there that I'm missing? I have Aisha Ali's Dances of North Africa DVD.

I'm excited to be working on this dance and met last night with two musicians who both play zurna. We will also have a drummer. I'm really looking forward to performing the dance this summer.

I have taken workshops on Ouled Nail with Amel Tafsout and with another excellent teacher, so I'm not working just from DVDs but video clips are very helpful!

These clips are tagged as Naili dance. Only the last one is cleaned up for stage, though.

No, I would call it folkloric dance, not belly dance.

On the Nelli workshop tape I have she said she used an old butterick nightgown pattern 4095 to make the dress

I was just cruising through some of those videos the other day. The most amazing performance I ever saw of this style was Leila Haddad at Spirit of the Tribes. Never have I seen something so..badass. She was earthy, grounded, gritty. Her costume was amazing. She wore a "glammed" up modern take on the Ouled Nail (Flashy sparkly beads and coins as opposed to antique ones) She smoked theatrical tobacco, made theatrical cakes in the dirt by her theatrical cook fire.

To this day I've never seen anything like it. I wish that performance had been filmed. It was, without a doubt, the coolest dance I'd ever seen. Are there any DVD workshops on this style that any one knows of?

OMG I love Leila Haddad. I would so much like to see that performance. She is skittish about being filmed in performance because of a very bad traumatic experience she had with unscrupulous people. Too bad, I would snap up anything with her on film! Especially, right now, the Ouled Nail!
