Thread: Nubian Music. . .can I add some chacha?

I am in the midst of choreographing "El Raqs Gamil" by Salamat from the album Salamat Mambo el Soudani. The music is Nubian, but I am doing a number of combinations in the choreography, including veil work (veils attached to the costume), Egyptian cabaret and a little cha-cha. Do yall think it is appropriate that I am doing a fusion style performance to a Nubian song? If this were a party or hafla performance, I would not worry, but it is a dance showcase. I am thinking no one will know it is Nubian, except for a few people, so it might not matter. Advice would be greatly appreciated..g.:

Salamat themselves have been known to dabble in a little fusion, so I don't think they would mind

I think it's fine as long as you state what it is and what the music is. Otherwise the audience might be confused about what they are looking at. I'm all for educating the audience.
