OK, so, my friend got hold of one of those great, pick and mix Egyptian VCDs that have all manner of mysterious things on them. This particular one has Dina, Nagua Fouad, Lucy, quite a bit of Fifi, Souhair Zaki.... and this OTHER dancer who I really liked and would like to identify.
My very first thought was that it was Older Souhair, facially, but I quickly changed my mind, dance seems wrong, jaw is too narrow, hips too big.
Based on hair, makeup, skinny brows and costume, I'm thinking the footage might be 80s. Well, her fashion style looks 70s, but the footage does not, and we all know how long these styles take to disappear. The dancer is wearing a less than flattering dress with a black/sheer lace bodice, an electric blue sequin skirt (matching ruffly cap sleeves on on the dress) that makes her hips look HUGE, and along the hip line, great big white flower appliques. She uses a lot of ummis/interior hip circles and dances with a wideish stance. She has shoulder length darkish hair. She is not young. She is awesome.
Anybody recognise this lady?

Re: Mystery Egyptian dancer,any thoughts?
Could be Safaa Saeed, she's awesome, and appears on a few compilation videos with the other dancers you mentioned.

Re: Mystery Egyptian dancer,any thoughts?
No, it's not my VCD and I think that might be somewhat illegal also... even if I had the technology.
Alas. I really like it/her. Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be footage or even images of any of the suggestions, but I don't think it's Sahar Hamdi based on descriptions of her dancing/photos.

I'm thinking it might be Shoo Shoo Amin also (and swoon! if it is, she is awesome), but I think I have this footage somewhere. The costume sound familiar. Will check.

Re: Mystery Egyptian dancer,any thoughts?
Here is a link to my photobucket, I put pics of Shushu and Safaa in there, now I kinda think it might be Shushu as well, since she looks a little older than Safaa, sorry the pics aren't great, they are image captures from a DVD.

Re: Mystery Egyptian dancer,any thoughts?
This sounds SO familiar.
I vaguely remember seeing a video - wish I remembered where, it might even be in my collection somewhere, with a dancer who was quite nice, somewhat beledi. It wasn't Shoo Shoo, Souheir or Sahar. I forget her name, but can look to see if I can find the video.
In terms of figures- Shoo Shoo is rounder than Souheir, with a waist, a tummy and nice juicy hips. Sahar is straighter without as much waist definition. Sahar's face is STUNNING and her hands lovely in movement. Shoo Shoo is lady like and classy with her dancing.
What was the stage/background/band like?
In the video I remember it wasn't a raised stage. It felt sort of "in the round" or almost "in the round" dance area? I'm kind of vague/fuzzy on the details though.
Can you tell us more about the production aspects? That also might help... or try to capture a shot of it.

Re: Mystery Egyptian dancer,any thoughts?
The first time, I saw Shoo Shoo Amin, I thought she was an older Fifi.
Is this her?

Re: Mystery Egyptian dancer,any thoughts?
If you take a screen capture (still frame image) I could probably identify your dancer - or at least tell you who it is NOT.

Re: Mystery Egyptian dancer,any thoughts?
It is hard to say without seeing her.. what was her hair colour and build like?
The first person who came to mind was Aza Sherif by the description of the costume... but I guess you would know her?

Re: Mystery Egyptian dancer,any thoughts?
I'll see what I can do. Getting screenshots is quite a production involving many cables for me and I'm somewhat uneasy about copying something that doesn't belong to me, but I'll have a go. From memory the band is up behind her but yes, she's not on a raised stage.
I don't think it is ShooShoo based on the footage shown. She's less glamorous than that, her lips are thin and her makeup is not heavy.
