German Shamadans - Are they really better?
Hi all,
I need a shamadan and want to avoid buying one of the usual wonky ones that are for sale everywhere. I want a good quality one. I was planning to make one myself out of a real brass candelabrum, but the project has hit some unexpected technical snags and may turn out to be a wash, so....
My plan B is to buy one of those expensive German shamadans. Like this one:

They look gorgeous, but this will cost a shocking $335 to buy and ship to Canada. OUCH!!!! I can't shell out that kind of bread without any reviews at all.
Has anyone seen or used one of these? Are they really better than the shoddy ones usually found? Are they worth the money? Any info much appreciated!

The best Shamadan in Germany made the husband of Jazira Malu.
I have some. The are without cristals, but high quality material and not so heavy, and every made personally for the dancer and has an ID-number.

We just did a group purchase of the one from Germany and it should be arriving in a couple weeks. I will let you know about it, once I get it.

OH MY that does look nice! My wallet is quivering. I had to laugh though when I read that one of its features is that it is "dismountable."..l;,

That *is* a nice website! And I totally agree with her on those particular fake candles - they're the best!

Re: German Shamadans - Are they really better?
I got a Malu-Shamadan some weeks ago and it's perfect :)
I haven't performed with it yet, but it's so much better than the cheap egyptian shamadan that I had before.
Malu's husband takes the measurments of your head (it's best when he does it himself but you can also do the measurements by yourself and send him the information). I think it usually takes some month up to one year (depending on the amount of work he has to do) until your shamadan is finished. He than likes to meet you to do the final adjustments. If you can't meet personally he will probably send you small pieces of additional foam rubber? (don't know if that's the right word) so you can adjust the shamadan by yourself.
He does a great work and I think it's worth the money. There might be other great shamadan-vendors around... Malu is just the one I tried and I'm really content :)
