    What style is this?

    Hello:

I was doing some research when I came across this video. Can anyone tell me what this style is? I do not think it is what I am thinking it might be...anyway, take a look!
    Thanks in advance :)

It's definitely "Reda Style," if nothing else. That song title leads back to the 1962 movie "Agazet nos el Sana," and according to the elcinema entry for that film, much of the action is set in the cotton-growing countryside, so it's presumably some sort of baladi. Below are two other videos from the same movie, one of which is labeled "Fellahi." There's also a 1955 film called "Ranet El Kholkhal," which doesn't seem to be obviously related. Sorry, that's all I could dig up....

Thanks! I have seen those clips but it looks a bit different. But it helps to know it is from the same movie.

I knew it was Reda (and i even found the same choreography interpreted by the Reda troupe dancers) but no clue as to what style it belongs too. The costume is not lke the other costumes in the movie either...sigh.

I will ask Nesma on FB... and I will let you know what she says!

As the others have said it is Reda style folkloric. It is actually a very good reconstruction of a dance in "Midyear Vacation". In the film this dance appeared on stage - ie it is a film about folkloric dancers not folk dance.

From some of the moves and the costuming (especially the chorus that appears at the end) I believe this is a Reda interpretation of a type of Bedouin dance.

Yes Kashmir, you are right. I did ask Nesma on FB and she was kind enough to reply :). She said the same thing. It is A reda choreography inspired by beduin dances. Thank you!!! I had never seen anything like it :)

Good to have confirmation. You have to look hard for the Bedouin! The feel is nothing like what I have learnt from Denise Enan.

Aside: I can't believe I knew that was Mohammed Kazafy just from the still. I'm not even a fan!

    It's beautifully done.

I looked at the clip and giggled and thought "Reda style, say no more." The average bedouin would probably look at this and wonder what planet the dancers were from. In addition, despite the obvious quality and expertise of the dancers, it looks quite mechanical to me.

I've gotten a lot out of studying w/Reda but honestly, this kind of thing makes me flinch -- after reading Anthony Shay's Choreographic Politics, I will never look at so-called folkloric dance complacently again.

    Thank you Andrea.

As much as I respect Reda and his work, I agree with your points.

It looks more like 'Disney on ice' to me.
