Re: Veil Ties and Wraps!
I sometimes drape the veil across my throat, cross it behind my back, and tuck each end into a hip. It is easy to remove when I want to dance with it and doesn't have the connotation of removing a part of the costume as much as veil removal has (for some people) when it was worn as a covering. But if you want the effect of changing the look of the costume a lot by removing the veil, this wrap doesn't do that.
The wrap in the video clip is classic and easy to do. Drape the veil over one arm and then tuck the ends into bra strap and hip. Notice that the veil in the video doesn't look slippery like silk. I think this wrap works best with a less slippery veil.
Sometimes I hold the veil behind my body, bring up both ends and cross them and tuck them into my bra straps. I use this especially when I am not dancing but need a cover up, but it could also work for dancing. It covers your entire torso and shows only your arms and part of your skirt. How to tastefully remove this one should be well thought out though.
I used to wear the veil on my head by making a tiny hole in the center of one edge and inserting a bobby pin through the hole. (You can do it without the hole too by twisting the veil a bit and securing the bobby pin around the twisted part). I wore a pony tail near the crown of my head and would insert the bobby pin into that pony tail. Then wrap the veil by bringing it from the back under your arms and tucking into the bra straps, or one into a bra strap and one into a hip. When you want to remove the veil, untuck the ends and grasp the veil in each hand. Pull forward until the bobby pin pops out. Then do your veil work. Nobody sees the bobby pin but it will fall somewhere on the stage. Shouldn't be a problem, even if you step on it you won't even notice it. I haven't done this veil wrap in years but I always thought it was very pretty.Belly Dance to the Music of Americanistan

Re: Veil Ties and Wraps!
My fave is the one Dunyah describes - around the throat, cross over the back (I use "left over right") and tuck at hips. Simple, and virtually impossible to screw up. Sometimes I do the same thing in the front - although I'm not sure how that would work/look on a woman.
Another one I've used is around the throat, and secure at the wrists with a pair of hair elastics. I've also used some of Cory Zamora's ties.
We guys have to be a bit creative/adaptive when it comes to veil wraps involving bra straps!Last edited by zorba; 01-16-2011 at 12:38 PM.
