What Kind of Dance/Music is This?

Well, I know what Suheir is doing but what kind of dance is this that the kids are doing and what kind of music is it? I'm intrigued by it, it seems very unusual

I've never seen that clip before. Very interesting. I've seen shaking of the hand before, but not in the way they are doing in the video. I'm curious to what the answer is.

It reminds me of the way I've seen Saudi boys dancing socially.

    Could it be Nubian?

Seems Nubian-like to me too, though I'm not positive. Surely it must at least be related to Nubian. Some of the movements are like ones I learned in the Nubian workshop I took with Mustapha and Khadejah and the music sounds similar too.

I can also see it Saudi dance-like as well....hmmm

In workshops with Faten Salama a few years ago, I know I learned a very similar hand movement--I am 95% sure it was in a haggallah workshop but will have to check that when I'm at the home computer.

Checked my notes, and what I was thinking of was haggallah. What I wrote in my notes was that it was a clapping thing rather than a shaking thing, but what I remember it that the gesture looked very similar to this one. Maybe it's just a generic folkloric desert kind of move.

Doesn't say "Nubian" to me - language and music is wrong and the dancing is too stiff. I've seen a little hand flick in Nubian but not the shimmy which I tend to associate with the Arabian Penisula.

    Same here...I can´t recognize anything from the nubian workshops I took...and the syncopated clapping&hand shimmy says "gulf"to me...but I have NO CLUE:S
